    I don't know who needs to hear this but anything you want to eat for breakfast is a breakfast food. Food does not magically become inedible at breakfast because you personally only ate it at dinner. Rice and beans for breakfast? Go for it! Oatmeal for dinner? Hell to the yeah. Become ungovernable.

    @monkeyninja I had a wonderful lesson on this subject ca. 2006 on a Lithuanian campsite.

    At 8am, all the moms were prepping potato soup with meat and sausages in the shared kitchen.

    Eating kimchi with breakfast in South Korea took a bit of getting used to, but was delicious just the same.

        @slothrop @monkeyninja There is probably some corner of the US Midwest where potato soup with meat and sausage is a traditional farm breakfast.

        Personally, I’ll eat oatmeal any time of the day. And sometimes we declare a family pancake dinner is required here.

          @monkeyninja Also breakfast is any meal with which you break fast. Slept for 8 hours? The next meal is breakfast. Had your last meal 3 hours ago? You are breaking your 3-hour fast. Had a snack 10 minutes ago? Breakfast!

              I need to get vegetables going all three meals to keep my dietician happy, so breakfast crudites? YES.

                    Been eating rice & beans for breakfast for years. I experimented extensively when I was young. Most 'breakfast food' either made me ill or left me hungry at 10:00.

                      We once had melted ice-cream over cereal for breakfast because Father bought a huge (to tiny me) tub of it the evening before. We'd had ice-cream and ice cream floats but there was plenty left.

                      Many years later, in a nostalgic moment, I tried it again. But it didn't taste or feel the same.

                        @monkeyninja And by the same token, if you want to eat bacon and eggs, or Eggs Benedict, or Belgian waffles, at 9:00 pm or something, go for it! "Breakfast" foods do not suddenly become illegal just because it's no longer morning.

                        (And I tend to love the foods that are usually classes as being "for breakfast".)

                          @monkeyninja @kimcrawley Many/most cultures don’t have separate “breakfast foods”.

                            taste buds for sweet tastes diminish in middle age, I've found this myself if I buy any sweet treat I remember from childhood or my teens (although this is increasingly rare anyway due to being on a diet to combat weight gain as I get older!)

                            I have the appetite of a tomcat and will eat any random thing at any time of day or night.. (I regularly meow too, including with a ginger cat who visits me every other day)

                                @kagan @monkeyninja I love breakfast for dinner. (The chief drawback is that a breakfast dinner doesn't really make for great leftovers, and I generally eat dinner leftovers for "breakfast" about four hours after I get up.)

                                  I had cream of wheat for an afternoon snack last week and have definitely had ice cream for breakfast before. My husband loves cold leftover pork & beans for breakfast.

                                          I was delighted to find people in Vietnam eating hot broth with noodles and vegetables for breakfast. My favorite food any time of day!
