@kodingwarrior what is fediverse-kr-verify?
@axbom what is FediSverige-katalogen?
there have previosly been post from @Gargron and @FediTips about verifications scams ,
and then there is the W by Anna Zeiter aiming for verification to align with new euro policy efforts. Did @_elena write an article on it? -

I try to be as transparent as possible on the website.
The idea is to help people in Sweden find other Sweden-related accounts on the Fediverse.
The intent is to make it easier for people to find interesting people to follow when they are new to the Fediverse.
Anyone can add themselves, so it's 100% voluntary, and to make sure nobody is adding someone else's account to the catalog, the verification post is needed.

@FediTips yes, the rel=”me” method seems simple enough anyone editing html can create a handshake people can trust, but I imagine you need some deep controll check on your links if you don't host the site yourself. Why not make a dns record? are there discussions on this for years already?

I think rel=me wasn't meant just for websites, it was supposed to be a universal standard that all social networks used so that if you linked to an account on another platform it would verify you were the same person.
Unfortunately Meta, Twitter etc refused to use it so it was only smaller more open networks like Mastodon that actually implemented it. And because most large networks didn't use it, the only thing that people could add it to was their website.

what caught my eye was specifically the use of a hash, something similar I saw from
@kodingwarrior , but they might be doing something completely different
