Uber driver had a reason for being vegetarian I hadn't heard before: "if you add up all the hamburgers people eat, there aren't enough cows for that, so meat must be fake"

@jonny Open the schools.

@jonny I'm so confused although sorta impressed with the 4d chess thinking. Why wouldn't a vegetarian eat a burger if they were sure it didn't have meat in it?
@chris_e_simpson @jonny
He's sure it has meat not from cows in it. -

@jonny let me guess, he asked a chatbot?

@emma
Hell no he hates the ai and social media, all full of lies, which I heartily agree with -
@jonny That's one way to get there, I suppose
@brad
All I could do is give him a hell ya -

@chris_e_simpson
It was unclear what the non meat material was, it was bad whatever it is though -

@jonny Well there's a point of view you aren't going to argue with, anyway

@jonny @troublewithwords He may have read 11/22/63 by Stephen King and thinks that's where the meat is coming from? That book changed me, too. But like, I'd still eat the burgers!

@jonny Despite stereotypes of vegetarians being preachy, over the years I've got many unsolicited comments from meat eaters telling me science "proves" vegetarianism is unhealthy/makes me a pussy/I'm missing out.
It helps to always have a smartarse answer to the inevitable question. Why don't you eat meat? Because I enjoy killing plants. Because animals are stealing all our food, we need to get it first. Because there's no such thing as mad broccoli disease. etc. etc.

@BoysenberryCider @jonny Although there is the explosive lettuce disease that's been in the news lately.

@jonny Two things:
1. Your driver greatly underestimates how many cows there are.
2. Most fast food burgers aren't 100% beef. I forget what the limit is, but the USDA permits up to a certain percentage of TVP added to beef before it has to be labelled differently. 20%? If I remember correctly, above 20%, it starts to no longer taste or feel like real meat. -

️@Lucaas @jonny @troublewithwords I feel like it's more likely to be a Soylent Green style of thing.

@jonny The funny thing is there actually has been some work to create "synthetic meats" where it's basically just meat grown in a vat and honestly I for one would be 100% ok with that. (Heck, it's about 100,000x more likely to be safe compared to real meat, would be more consistent and more controlled, wouldn't have certain gross features of real meat probably no one here wants to hear, and you don't get more zero cruelty than than just meat cells grown in a vat.) But of course that will never go over in this society.

@jonny I’ll smoke what he’s smoking.
