Right in the middle of a rainy moment, a tiny bird becomes the star of something truly magical—a perfect water droplet lands on its head, forming a crown-like splash that feels almost unreal.

Right in the middle of a rainy moment, a tiny bird becomes the star of something truly magical—a perfect water droplet lands on its head, forming a crown-like splash that feels almost unreal. The timing is flawless, capturing a split second where nature turns playful.

@Keab42 Yeah, I wasn't entirely awake and took the provenance description at face value. Thinking it through, the splash type depicted only really happens when water drops fall into water. Plus, commenters were able to determine that it was actually genAI. I got goozled.

Ich hasse dieses Ganze AI Gedöns. Nicht mal mehr Naturfotos kann man ohne Misstrauen geniessen.
Ich auch... Dabei von ich doch unter anderem auch hier wegen Bird Content. Hmpf.

@Adrenochrome @winkleink @pycomtois @luckychronic @BelfastRoadster Not impossible, that could explain the lack of exif data.
@hans_zelf Well… Platforms such as Mastodon delete metadata.
This is more likely AI slop or made up in some photo editing software… The bird would react if they got a big drop of water on her head and it would not form a symmetrical crown.
It would form a ring… on a flat surface/water container, not on a curved surface such as a head
And that "Lee Schofer" photographer is nowhere to be found on the web…

@noodlemaz @BelfastRoadster The text also sounds very LLM written tbh

@Adrenochrome @BelfastRoadster also, you got the image from one of those crappy twitter accounts that posts 'photos' with zero credit - where did you get the Facebook credit from, out of interest..?
-
@Adrenochrome even if this was AI generated, they get points for a very clever idea. I judge AI on the intended message. This was clearly meant to entertain, not misinform.
@moelassus except it does misinform by presenting something fake as real.

@FinchHaven @Adrenochrome those of us who appreciate photography, wildlife, physics even, care. AI is filling our information ecosystem with garbage. Misinformation spreading is part of the fascist project. When we can no longer believe our eyes and ears, bad actors thrive.
Yep it's 'just' a pic of a bird with some made up splash bullshit. But the fact this is the kind of rubbish we see daily now is a real problem and something people are right to be angry about. #genAI #AIslop #photoshop

Instagram Account is for Lee Schofield and not Lee Schofer.
About page on the website linked to from the Instagram page is also Lee Schofield
Maybe the same person but doesn't match Lee Schofer as mentioned in the original post.
There are pictures of robins on the Insta page but not this one specifically, unless I missed it.
I'd love it to be real as it does look fantastic. But personally, I'm not convinced.

We are now living in a world with filters, Photoshop, and AI.
I really don't know if this oic is real or not; some checkers say no, some yes. Some could be, but it has no misinformation, just beauty, and it's nice to see. -

Perhaps a little personal backgrounder is in order
I have +25 years as a professional digital still and video photographer
I've used Adobe Creative Cloud's Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Premier Pro, and Adobe Audition to post-process tens of thousands of Canon CR2 RAW photos, and unedited video
I have some sense of what is real photography, what is AI butchered photography, and what has been created by AI alone
And again, I say, who the fuck *really* cares about something like this?
It's clearly for fun
Maybe everyone let a little whimsy into your lives and stop feeling like you have tell other people where they're wrong
Save your Smartest Little Boy schtick for something important, mkay?

@FinchHaven not a boy, thanks. You don't get to tell people what they should or should not care about.
Maybe in its original context (boomer Facebook) it was fun. Shared on as if it's a real photo with a likely AI caption? Not so much.I do not want to share slop and fake images. I want to boost photographers. Fine if you don't care about that - some of us do. I don't like being lied to and I don't like how AI slop has infected everything we see (either the reality or the suspicion of it).
You not feeling serious about this one thing does not mean you have a point by shitting on everyone who does. Just makes you a different kind of annoying.
