And I'm off at 04:45. Attempting a solo sail from Helsinki to the Åland Islands. Some 150 nautical miles. Have done a 100+ before. Don't have getthereitis, hopefully. Let's see how it goes. Only worrying thing is where is fishing equipment like nets in the Gulf of Finland?
Easterly winds and a full moon made me do this now. Cloudy though. #sailing

@harald lovely trip so far, mind you, solo voyages over 24h are not that much about you - as long as you can manage your sleep schedule - but about what your autopilot can handle.

@jkmcnk true. Sleeping is an issue on longer trips. I'll hopefully be there at around 8 in the morning, so can in a worst case scenario manage with old eyes as they say here.

Wind is now SE 12-14 kn. Sunset is near, and moonrise too. Full moon tonight, let's hope it doesn't get too cloudy. Heard a near gale warning on VHF, hopefully I'll be behind islands by then.

Arrived at 0700, exactly as Navionics predicted. The night wasn't that fun. The wind increased all the way, and the sea state even more so. It became quite unpleasant. Surfing wildly 8-9 knots down huge waves in darkness (cloudy), and no clue if there's fishing equipment up ahead. It worked out alright, I was in deep water and outside the smallest islands so I would have been surprised if there was any nets or some such.
Edit 26 hours, 155 nautical miles. Almost 6 knots average.

@lennart I put the shortest mattress in the middle of the boat on the floorboard. Did several attempts at dozing off with a 30 min timer. I have practiced these 30 min dozes on the hard. I don't feel like it worked. Either it was too early and me being excited, or the sea state was such that it was too noisy in the boat and I wallowed back and forth. Until I tried laying on my side, which helped. I think I actually got that fall asleep feeling once or twice. I was tired, but then again needed only 2 hours of sleep and then I was up again sailing to the shop in pouring rain.
I think i tried these 30 min dozes maybe 6 or 8 times.
It's a good question. Sleep is the biggest challenge in my opinion. That's why I wanted to practice and do this. It wasn't longer than being on night watch at the club's marina, but then resting is more efficient there.
