@thomasfuchs How is 94% "reaching target"? I thought that would be 100%
@revk it's ok, 94% of flights still reach their destination, target reached!!

@thomasfuchs ** WE ** ARE ** THE ** 6% **
@revk @thomasfuchs Also, it's one thing to do a couple of hours (may be a full weekend if you are that way inclined) running ATC in MS Flight Sim. But my understanding of the job is the unrelenting pressure of not killing 1000s of people at a time day in day out for months at a time which drives people out of this line of work...

@ben @thomasfuchs In simple terms, gamers can always get an extra life. Passengers on a plane do not.

@thomasfuchs The only way to learn is by playing, the only way to win is by learning, and the only way to begin is by beginning!

("Game Changer" being the Sam Reich gameshow with chaos rules from which his above opening line unfortunately now applies to air traffic, apparently)

@ben @revk @thomasfuchs I had an ATC simulator game back in the 80s. It was good fun, but after a half hour or so of being sensible I would switch to seeing just how close I could make those near misses. Anyway, I’m looking for work and I enjoy some video games!

@thomasfuchs @MaryAustinBooks One would hope that these gamers wouldn’t be gaming when they’re guiding American 174 to a landing at SFO.

@thomasfuchs you don't like it when they say, "the best and the brightest" in quotation marks for no good reason making it read as sarcasm?
-

@revk @thomasfuchs don't you know the target was 80% of results for 20% of effort

@thomasfuchs what a bizarre take, like the secretary is unaware of the real problem he’s facing. From listening to Opposing Bases, my takeaway was that the limiting factor is the time it takes to complete training and the fact that there’s only one training facility in the country. They aren’t hurting for applicants; they’re hurting for TRAINERS and facilities to do the training.

@thomasfuchs love the unsolicited quotes around "best & brightest"

I'm never going on a plane ever again
@thomasfuchs I’m sure it’s fine. BTW, how long does it take a crashed flight to respawn?
-
I'm never going on a plane ever again
@thomasfuchs withstanding the continuous stress of controlling flights is easy if you are a psychopath who feels no stress at all over the fate of hundreds of humans flying. Hire psychopaths for the job!

These people reached the academy.
That´s it. They haven´t been qualified to sit in a tower. -
I'm never going on a plane ever again
@thomasfuchs "Streamlined hiring process" does not fill me with confidence.
-
I'm never going on a plane ever again
@thomasfuchs When your ATC is run by kids who have the mentality that if a plane goes down, not to worry as it will regenerate or something.

@thomasfuchs
If someone is amongst "the best and brightest" I doubt they would choose ATC as an occupation.
