        @danielgibert but what are we hoping for? For the cold and rainy weather I seem to bring along a lot, or are we afraid I'll cause another heat wave? 🥹 @FediTips @admin

              Thanks, this is really cool! So far I appear to be the only follower of my city (actually the next city over, but it's close enough), and there aren't any posts from it yet. I'm guessing that's because I only just followed it, and nobody else on my instance is following it at all. Still, I have high hopes!

                  Yeah, it will be blank if you're the first person from your server to follow it, but you should start seeing forecasts within 6 hours of following 👍️

                      @FediTips @admin Request - Alameda, California, United States. I'm following Oakland which is physically close but the weather differs a lot in that small distance.

                        p.s. FediMeteo hides its followers so that it doesn't give away anyone's location. You can hide your own follow lists too using the instructions at https://fedi.tips/how-to-hide-your-follows-and-followers-in-mastodon

                        p.p.s. FediMeteo autodeletes its own posts after a certain period to avoid filling up server databases with old forecasts.

                        p.p.p.s. If there's a location missing from the lists, let @admin know about it and they may be able to add it in the next update.

                                  There is a weather service on the Fediverse called FediMeteo providing forecasts in your timeline for cities and towns around the world:

                                  1. Go to https://fedimeteo.com
                                  2. Click your country
                                  3. Click your town/city
                                  4. Copy-paste the Fediverse address (looks like @ something @ something ) into the search box in Mastodon etc
                                  5. Click follow in Mastodon etc

                                  (Don't worry if it looks blank, it just means no one from your server follows that account yet.)

                                  If you have questions ask @admin

                                    Thanks again for pointing it out 👍️

                                    Glad to help! This is one of those opsec settings that folks need to be more aware of!

                                      @monnier @admin

                                      I'm guessing it's just a memorable domain?

                                      The meteorological data source FediMeteo uses is only available to non-commercial projects, so they cannot do anything commercial with it.
