“In the days ahead, you’ll hear some people argue that Canada has no choice. We cannot afford to lose U.S. market access.

The data says otherwise. Merchandise exports to the United States fell by roughly $30 billion in 2025 — and were almost entirely offset by a $29 billion increase everywhere else. Global Affairs Canada’s own accounting puts non-U.S. markets at 32.8 per cent of Canadian exports, the highest share in four decades. Canada is negotiating from a considerably stronger position than its posture suggests.”

@c_9 I'm always trying to keep numbers in context...is it a trade number that includes services.... does it include crude oil or other unprocessed minerals... does it include autos... oil and car volumes are so large, that they drown out changes to anything else.

The oil and autos is almost entirely exported by foreign companies..

holding on "merchandise" excluding cars would be great news, but not great if its "a slight increase in oil export revenue"

@c_9 that article is terrible news. Like it will become illegal to operate digital services that aren't US based. 😡

@c_9 Yeah, I kind of hope this deal tanks carney and the libs poll numbers, caving to this tiny amount of pressure looks like weakness and trump will try to exploit it further. Its a shame the NDP arent more viable and appealing
