@phocks I’m nearly 40 and I’ve been told for the last 20 years that we are in a cost of living crisis. As you have eluded to, when do we start to review the very economic system that perpetuates this ongoing crisis?

But when the cost of basic survival skyrockets and wages stagnate, we are looking at a permanent, systemic downward shift in class. Wealth is actively being extracted upward into assets the rest of us do not own. People are being quietly squeezed into poverty while working full time. The baseline of a secure life is being dismantled, and our diminished quality of life is exactly how the top tier is securing their gains.
@phocks I've known for years this was coming. That's why I didn't have children. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get out okay, but they'll never subject my innocent unborn kids to poverty and suffering. Checkmate.

@phocks not just people but governments too. The amount of borrowing most western governments have is drawing a massive proportion of your tax into the hands of the asset hoggers in the form of interest. Us pays about 88 billion per MONTH in interest alone.

We have been conditioned to think that the current process of extraction and rent seeking is normal. We need to define a new normal, where the economy is designed to benefit all of society instead of the super rich.
Our media landscape lacks imagination however, unwilling to lift the veil. The vast majority of people just accept that they are in a rat race, and are looking for their chunk of cheese.@ewen @phocks @JugglingWithEggs Keep people just poor enough and getting by and they'll never look up because all their focus is just keeping their heads above water.

@dartigen There is no legitimate reason that rent should increase 10% every year under stable ownership. The people who own my complex have raised my rent from $900/month in 2020 to $1300 in 2026. Why? Because they can. Their expenses are not 50% higher today than what they were five years ago. My income certainly isn't 50% higher. Yet here we are. I cannot move because all rents have risen the same amount, and based on income, I no longer "qualify" under income requirements to live anywhere.

Well said.@shansterable @phocks Yep, and sounds a little like Spain 1936. If the shortage is similar… I don‘t think this will go calmly. Hope I‘m wrong. They want to turn your beautiful country into sth like KSA already is , in my opinion. This tendency I am experiencing inside EU, either. Few rich many poor. The middle layer is still to fat for them.
