Folks!
-
I’ve had pretty good luck with the Ice Cubes app. Lots of people do find the Mastodon app to be less user friendly.
-
@votetanille Android or iOS? For Android, Flare is great - and it also allows you to cross-post to things like Bluesky if you also have a presence there! https://f-droid.org/packages/dev.dimension.flare
For iOS, I've heard good things about Ivory. When I had an iPhone, I used Toot, which I found ok-ish

@votetanille Moshidon

@votetanille for iOS and macOS Ivory is really good

@votetanille Moshidon
@dreamphysix @votetanille EDIT:
I forgot that the unstabke version I mention below is not the version in the app store - which is ok. But read in my reply that follows, for a caveat about quote toots.(I use moshidon and like it, but don't recommend thr "nightly" version right now. It's become unstable, and a whole new version is in the works. Better to wait on this one.)
-
@votetanille you're right: having a client you enjoy really changes the ezperience. I hope you find the right one soon!

@deborahh @votetanille haven't noticed any instability but I'm not a power user. Nonetheless, excited for the new version

@dreamphysix @votetanille actually, I forgot, the unstable version was the "nightly", not the version in the app store so … it's worth a try then, it has so many nice features!
But note that it does not handle the new quote toots at all ... the quoted toot may simply disappear from the toot.
I'll be curious to hear what other Android clients folks are loving ...

@votetanille The option that I've always preferred is the progressive web app! This is (in my opinion) a very underrated feature of most web browsers that lets you add websites to your home screen without needing to install the entire app. It saves disk space and is generally more secure than a normal app. Here's a guide on how to set it up on Google Chrome, but the process is similar on other browsers too: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/9658361
If it doesn't work, or it's not for you, I also like Tusky for Android https://tusky.app/. I've heard good things about Ivory on IOS, but haven't tried it myself.

@votetanille I use Ivory. It has iPhone, iPad and macOS versions. And has a free and one-time price too. Been using it for 3 years.
The mastodon app is getting better but still not exactly intuitive, but I can confirm socialbc.ca does work on it!
Here’s how to use it.
1) In the first screen when you open it. Make sure to hit
“Log In”. You already have a socialbc.ca account.2) type in socialbc.ca to search for us and tap us when we appear. (Assuming we do!)
3) then use your email and password that you use on socialbc.ca to login.

@votetanille woooo!
I should put this on our website!
Thank you for the push!
-
@votetanille I like Phanpy, even though it's web-based.
-
@votetanille Toot! (which isn’t the same as Toot) is by far my number 1—and it has the cutest and most fun visuals! Ice Cubes is a close second. Both find my tiny instance without an issue.
The official app, sadly, is universally panned…
Looking forward to seeing more of you!

@votetanille On desktop I use Sengi, because it feels like old Tweetdeck. And on iOS Mona

@chris @votetanille I have used Tusky on Android since before the Mastodon app existed and I just have not been able to like the main official app. I can highly recommend it for Android/Linux users

@votetanille
I’ve had great experience since 2023 with the iOS app “Toot!”Bug free, full-featured, easy and intuitive UI. I’ve tried others and found Toot! suits me perfectly.
-
#tusky also works well, I think it's web based but you can have a shortcut on your phone.
-
@votetanille FWIW I only use @phanpy in a browser, both on desktop & mobile - I can't think of anything missing, let alone anything I would need to switch for an app to have
