Sometimes I look in the replies of @mekkaokereke's posts when he talks about how the Fediverse is not friendly to Black people.

Sometimes I look in the replies of @mekkaokereke's posts when he talks about how the Fediverse is not friendly to Black people. Just tons of people tripping over themselves to say they don't see race... therefore they don't see the problem. Making their point even more valid

At this point, it is impossible for me to read 'I don't see race' and not think, 'you are probably not just uninformed, you are probably a racist'.

@skinnylatte it's the same thing with gender, I have colleagues who say they don't see gender, but fail to understand that this only marks them out as extra privileged because I assure you my female colleagues are acutely aware of their underprivileged situation every day.
Not seeing gender or race or whatever is a sign of being privileged, not a sign of being inclusive.

@EvilCartyen @skinnylatte it's also a straight up lie. I'd love it if more people around me genuinely "didn't see gender," because then I wouldn't get misgendered all the time! But every cis person who has told me "no no I call *everyone* they/them" manages to find the word he as soon as a cis guy walks in the room
and if the people in Mekka's replies didn't see race, they wouldn't be so eager to dismiss everything he says, because I *know* they don't do that to those they see as white guys -
