    Question to #danish #fediverse people:

My criteria for a SoMe platform (whatever we wanna call it):

1/ Code is Free and open source - FLOSS
2/ No algorithms to prioritize, promote, suppress or otherwise influence content
(except what a user might choose for themselves)
    3/ Platform is ad free
    4/ Interoperability

    - what s missing?

Seen from this angle, are any of these worth looking at?

@sebastian No, not really - they pretty much fail at every single one of your criteria (edit: except @datacoop which operate on different terms, see the bylaws)

Some of them seem really ethical about their choices, and I'm sure they will do good. I *do* understand they're trying to build a business, and I admire them for their will to make a change.

But at the end of the day, they are still at risk ending up creating their own little data silos, so they are more or less repeating how, say, Facebook operates, albeit at a smaller scale. That will ultimately only benefit their wallets, not an open, interoperable internet.

If we want a better internet, we need to build sites that cooporates and does not take away basic user freedoms.

        @simonjust

        thank you!

and yes, you make an important point there -
some might have really good and ethical intentions and legitimate business interests, yet might still be at risk of making the same mistakes again.

@sebastian The Twitter -> X takeover comes to mind as one of the prime examples of how corporate culture can change very rapidly.

It could happen in the Fediverse ecosystem as well, but at least we would have an option to very rapidly offer alternatives.

yes, corporate cultures and also personal circumstances can change rapidly -
a well-meaning and ethically motivated person may come under economic pressure or whatnot,
and be forced to make decisions they wouldnt make today.
and this has to be addressed by the general architecture of any platform project, and not by good intentions.

@sebastian @simonjust this is exactly why we're making #Folkeføderation. To provide a social network that is owned and controlled collectively and without advertising or surveillance.
