@thordis not all millennials - I'm GenX (early 70's) but am, slightly, unusual in that my dad wasn't a boomer (he was born during not after WWII) and my mom is similarly not really of the boomers (she was at Berkeley in the 60's - as was my dad - though my dad was in grad school and famously wore a suit & tie to Jefferson Airplane concerts) but also because my mom has been a programmer since the 1960's (and my grandfather wrote code though mostly designed satellites and planes) so really GenGeek

@hosford42 @szczurtorebkowy @thordis ostensibly it's centered around us being born into a totally analog world that still played outside all day without supervision and movies and TV had production values still and there were Rolodexes, but then we were still young enough for the flip to a digital society to be able to implant itself in our lives in a way that the Lead Paint Generation and Gen X was just a little too old and inelastic for. Some of them could, but not overall.
@Clem In this part of the world is also witnessing shops without almost nothing on the shelves, partial food rationing, ques without end, only two tv channels one starting to send in the afternoons, university teacher working second job to be able to raise us. Feeling for many years second category and like a poor relative to the people from the West...

That's funny, cos that description is almost word for word the standard description of Gen X, apart from the bit at the end.
But hey, us GenX-ers are used to having our experiences misappropriated - when we're not being completely ignored/forgotten, of course. It's the other main generational cliche about us, apart from our endless snark and weary cynicism.

@Clem @szczurtorebkowy @thordis I don't feel lucky. I feel like I'm watching all my hopes and dreams be torn down for good, just as they were about to finally be within reach. The stuff I worked toward my whole life... I worked toward it for nothing. All the angst, trying to be good enough for my parents and then my children, only to find out it was pointless because it doesn't matter what I do or did. The world has turned to a giant dumpster fire, and I don't know how we will ever climb out of it.
@hosford42 Hugs...

"I don't know which of those is which" - that's because the Americans, as usual, came along and made up their own definition of Gen X well after the fact of it being a thing elsewhere in the world (U.K. and Australia at a minimum, perhaps elsewhere as well), which was like 15ish years later than the original phenomenon, and, again as usual,
American Imperialism has been winning. I've seen U.S. articles describe them precisely, but gave them some other, lesser-known nameThe US is good at that. Look up why the democrats are blue and republicans red. It's the total opposite to what the rest of the world would expect from those colors. I have been confused by this for soo long until I noai.duckduckgo.com'd it. (Ok, that doesn't roll of the tongue, does it?)
No, I have no idea what to choose here either, and I have read up on it several times after discussions.

@thordis my brother was born in 1980, Gen X. I was born in 1981, Millennial.
@szczurtorebkowy@Tattie @thordis @szczurtorebkowy Both Xennials. (As am I)
I prefer “Oregon trail generation”, but that just redirects to the link below.

@olliestudio45 @hosford42 Yep. Most of the people I know on here are 50+, the seniors corner of the internet with everyone who built and maintained it

@Bumblefish @olliestudio45 @hosford42 Yeah, other polls I've seen was mostly boomers and GenX. Early GenXer myself.
But it's good with a new influx of millennials
