@jwcph I didn't have a DX7 myself, but there was one in the Electronic Music studio when I went to university. I had a Casio CZ-1, another 1980s marvel. Yamaha's FM synthesis was able to produce some unique sounds. It was especially good for bell-like tones, because of the way FM synthesis works. Casio used what they called "Phase Distortion" synthesis.

@gcvsa I had a Roland JX-3P - I wanted a JX-8P in place of the un-affordable DX-7 but I couldn't afford that one either I honestly don't remember specifically how it sounded; I had started looking for a hardware controller for it but I switched to mainly playing guitar before I found one... one wonders what might have been
