The high prices are benefitting a corrupt few: fossil fuel oligarchs, the head of the current regime and his cronies. If they were high due to taxation, they could benefit wide groups of people if the taxes were for the benefit of counteracting climate change.

For gas prices to start to change people's behavior they need to be in the $8-10/gal range. I'm not sure that that's the right price to account for the social cost, but that's when people will start changing their behavior.

How will truck drivers absorb such cost? Let me guess….higher prices coming our way very shortly?

2. Gas prices should be higher because their cost doesn't include the massive environmental and #climate damages fossil fuels cause.@petergleick Agreed. That’s what we have over here in Europe. Current average E10 price here in Denmark converts to $10.25/US gallon and $10.67 for diesel.
We also have annual taxes on cars based on emissions. Parking is also expensive and inconvenient as relatively little space is allocated to it. -
