@stux I'm not watching at all. I gave up on Harry Potter several years ago when I heard the author was a bigot

Feels like the remake is for people who don't want to cope with the original cast rejecting Rowling.
I'm curious if they're going to downplay the "look, I'm a racist/classist/fatphobic piece of shit" notes in this one even further than the original ones, or if they're going to lean in even farther?

"follows the books"
Harry's dad hanging the new Black Snape from a tree.
Ya. Rowlings *definitely* had a hand in casting this.
She's not *just* a transphobe. She a white supremacist bigot too.

@stux
I don't agree. The Harry Potter books were definitively the best reading experience I've ever had in my life.
I've read all of the books to my kids as well, and I wouldn't miss a minute of that wonderful time.
There is some much magic and wisdom in those books, and the prophecies of the hard times we are in at the moment.
I am here to protect her and willing to cast every spell I know with the exception of one of the forbidden ones.
@anthrazit that series already had so many problematic themes, but also, Rowling is such a cruel, anti-feminist, transphobic, bigot, that I don't understand how anyone can still support her work in any way that puts money in her pocket or spreads her toxic influence.
It's like saying, "Voldemort's policies left something to be desired, but he really brought people together". Except you didn't even acknowledge the first part.

@anthrazit @stux I have some follow-up questions.
- do you think I deserve healthcare?
- do you support my right to call my wife a woman?
- do you think people should be allowed to choose what we do with our bodies?
- do you think racism or anti-Semitism are bad?
- do you think women are harmed by a system that enforces strict gender roles and places their value on how well they meet an arbitrary aesthetic standard? If you answered "yes" to any of these, you might want to rethink your support.

@stux i seen most in cinema...people took me to see em, i always thought they were ok low attention fun
The only things JKR brought to the table were cruel interconnects between the much better sources she stole from, plus lawyers.
When I read the first HP book, I thought it was a fanfic homage to the Worst Witch series or maybe Chrestomanci series. Or Books of Magic for the protagonist. Or Agatha Christie for plot. Nope. Complete rip-off.
OK, time to watch some Worst Witch! Or Owl House!

@jakebrake @stux reading the first book i was wondering if it was a homage to "the little broomstick"
I really fucking hate that her stans keep claiming she "invented" magical schools....

Check their TOS (terms of services). You will see they cite only two countries: Switzerland and the United States.
They fall under U.S. Justification, but their TOS tries to claim they're primarily Switzerland.
@Linux @stux Where do you think it says they fall under US jurisdiction? The places I see the US mentioned is where they have registered trademarks in the US and says consumer users in the US agree to binding arbitration and a class action waiver unless they opt out within the first 30 days of agreeing to the terms of service

@stux This shit is exactly why people hate wokism. And why the right wing is gaining popularity. -

To be explicit, I did very much enjoy the movies and the theme park, but didn't learn about JKR's mental and emotional challenges until later.
Nowadays, I can only see that HP was abused by cruel guardians, taken advantage of by a manipulative schoolmaster, and ended up becoming a cop--one with anger issues and violent tendencies.
BTW, Arthur Weasley? Also a cop. Those stories reek of copaganda.

@stux And John Lithgow as Dumbledore? I've lost respect for him for having taken the role, but though I used to like him as an actor, he is not Dumbledore.

A lot was left out of the movies, so this is an opportunity to tell more of the story, but considering the author, its time should be done. I guess they think they can milk it further.

@jakebrake @Noortjevee @stux Have you seen the Conrad Edison series? I was surprised he wasn't sued. It was just a darker version of HP.

@stux Please don't spread nonsense. You are right about the fact that noone asked for this, but at least Rowling still knows what common sense is.

Proton is problematic due to cooperating with the FBI. Did they resist? Yeah, sure. Could they have resisted a lot more and in more public ways? Definitely.
Plus the owner is allegedly a racist bigoted POS. Proton might shield similarly-minded users, but anyone else, caveat utilitor.

Streaming services now use paid services to track how often torrents are downloaded, effectively treating piracy as another viewer metric. Just by torrenting it you're helping boost JKR's numbers. And alas, using a VPN won't change that.
There are many services, but one such tool is Piracymeter.
