@jakebrake @Noortjevee @stux Have you seen the Conrad Edison series? I was surprised he wasn't sued. It was just a darker version of HP.
@CStamp @jakebrake @stux i have not...it goes on the list..

The only things JKR brought to the table were cruel interconnects between the much better sources she stole from, plus lawyers.
When I read the first HP book, I thought it was a fanfic homage to the Worst Witch series or maybe Chrestomanci series. Or Books of Magic for the protagonist. Or Agatha Christie for plot. Nope. Complete rip-off.
OK, time to watch some Worst Witch! Or Owl House!
A pretty good summary of the wherefroms and examples:

@jakebrake @stux i kept saying this part also..
Although i was harsher, i keep saying "Dumbledore only became gay because she could benefit of him being gay:

Onto my list too!
This is turning into a pretty good source for things to check out! Perfect for a Friday afternoon.

"JK Rowling, support for letting go of HP" -
@CStamp @jakebrake @stux i have not...it goes on the list..
@Noortjevee @jakebrake @stux I think he got his magic rules a lot more consistent. JKR had so many inconsistencies. They can do a reparo, for instance, to fix broken glasses, but poor witches/wizards have patched or ratty robes? They all seem to take the train, in a muggle train station, to Hogwarts, but there are magic folk who don't know what muggles dress like?

@Noortjevee @jakebrake @stux FWIW, it seems a movie for it is in the works.

"A live-action adaptation is currently in the works, scheduled to be directed by Jennifer Kent."
-
@stux And if I want to support Rowling and common sense?
@destranis @stux
Those are mutually exclusive. -

@CStamp @jakebrake @stux one of my main gripes is
"There is no magic strong enough to raise the dead...oh wait there is, we just lied. Lied so the only intresting (to me) part is negated and leads to dull by the books resolution.

The Books of Abarat is a young adult fantasy series by Clive Barker, set in a magical archipelago of 25 islands, each representing an hour of the day, with a planned five books, of which three have been published: Abarat (2002), Days of Magic, Nights of War (2004), and Absolute Midnight (2011).

The series follows a girl named Candy Quackenbush as she navigates this world, battling darkness and discovering her connection to it, all brought to life with Barker's own surreal illustrations.

@stux As expected, this thread brought out some bigot JKR fans for my blocklist.

-
@anthrazit @stux I have some follow-up questions.
- do you think I deserve healthcare?
- do you support my right to call my wife a woman?
- do you think people should be allowed to choose what we do with our bodies?
- do you think racism or anti-Semitism are bad?
- do you think women are harmed by a system that enforces strict gender roles and places their value on how well they meet an arbitrary aesthetic standard?If you answered "yes" to any of these, you might want to rethink your support.
If I would solemnly swear to just have social contact with people I totally agree with I would be the loneliest person in the world.

It might remain a mysterie forever

@stux
I don't agree.The Harry Potter books were definitively the best reading experience I've ever had in my life.
I've read all of the books to my kids as well, and I wouldn't miss a minute of that wonderful time.
There is some much magic and wisdom in those books, and the prophecies of the hard times we are in at the moment.
I am here to protect her and willing to cast every spell I know with the exception of one of the forbidden ones.
Might as well cast the forbidden ones too, since that's what Rowling is doing to trans people anyway. Commit to the bit, y'know?

@veronica Handy but unfortunate there still here!

@stux Rowling has always been awful - the whole basis of the Harry Potter novels is that some people are fundamentally better than others. The much lauded themes of friendship are really just friendship with the right people - it's ok to remain enemies with the other.

Streaming services now use paid services to track how often torrents are downloaded, effectively treating piracy as another viewer metric. Just by torrenting it you're helping boost JKR's numbers. And alas, using a VPN won't change that.
There are many services, but one such tool is Piracymeter.
https://piracymeter.com/@ralfmaximus True that but it won't contribute direct cash at least

Gotta start somewhere
