Habemos Papam!
Anyone know anything about this guy? He was chosen by Francis, so maybe more of a liberal?
But he’s an American - so maybe a Trumper?
But he served a long time in South America, so maybe not too bad?
I guess we’ll find out.

@Remittancegirl Yes, he has worked mostly in Peru. He chose Leo as his papal name, continuing on Leo the 13th who was known for his social justice perspectives at the turn of the last century. E.g. he suggested that all workers should be able to strike. Seems like someone that could me more of a contrast to Trump if one can speculate. I don't know more than this!

@tanyakaroli Not particularly helpful… because I’m not trained in ‘catholic reading between the lines’

@Remittancegirl sorry, haven’t read it myself yet, my husband found it but I can’t get access for now.

@Remittancegirl danish media just said he isn’t one of Trump’s favorites. But just think how annoying Vance is going to be over this…

@Remittancegirl @tanyakaroli the two paragraphs regarding his handling of affairs of sexual abuse made me frown an eye.

@antoinechambertloir I took note of that, too. They really have some work to do in the Catholic church.

@Remittancegirl Worth noting that he did not speak a single English word in his first speech. He spoke Italian, Spanish and Latin.

@malte Not being Catholic I am not sure how to interpret that.

@Remittancegirl It's the first time that there's an American pope, so it is open for interpretation for most people I think. I just note that he linguistically represented the places he has lived (incl. many years in Rom, right next to the balcony he was standing, as the head of the Augustinians), but not USA.That tells me he is more of a Peruvian, than an American pope.
