      I have always contended that there is a way in which women in latin societies (and I am sure there are others that are similar, I’m just not so familiar with them) take on their femininity - and it is a kind of aggressive femininity. I don’t mean aggressive in a negative sense, but as an active state of being. There’s a pride in their gaze, in the way they hold themselves, that is confronting. That speaks of ownership of the self.

      I don’t see it in Anglophone women in the same way.
