I remember an insane interchange with an English woman in the lobby of a hotel in Cordoba, who, in a conspiratorial whisper, told me that ‘they’ don’t let you say Merry Christmas anymore.
“Who is ‘they’?” I asked.
“You know, those woke people. Those lefties, those liberals.” She replied.
“Oh, those people. Yeah, they make you say it in 15 different languages. Terrible.”
She stared at me. “You’re one of them, aren't you?”
“Yeah, we’re fucking everywhere. Humans."
