Like so many racists, Musk thinks that using the world 'culture' instead of 'colour' makes him seem less racist.

Anyone with an iota of knowledge about the UK and Ireland knows that Scottish and Irish cultures are quite distinct from each other.
So, what he really means is that they're white.
@Remittancegirl Does this mean Musk is going to join the US Army? Or if he wants to avoid Basic Training, he could just become an ICE agent.

And which English-Scots-Irish culture is that?
The one made up of Celtic, Roman, Viking, Saxon and French cultures?
You only need look at the English language to know it is not some pure monoculture.
But these people don't deal in facts. they sell a mythology to hide their quest for power.
@TCatInReality @Remittancegirl It is characteristic of all racists, that they don't even know the culture they are pretending to defend. Germany as an example was for the last 1000 years part of a very diverse empire (inluding German, Polish, Italian, Dutch, Jewish, Hungarian people etc.) with countless quite autonomous regions & ethnicities. The goal of the nationalists/ nazis always was to eradicate this diversity and cultural heritage. Racists are basically people without culture, but hate.
-
@brad thanks for replying. Yes, diversity is good, provided that there is integration into the existing culture.
Musk is wrong, of course. Huge Middle European, Jewish, Spanish influence, not to mention the original inhabitants whose culture has so influenced our understanding of how systems can coexist.@lucyweirphd Totally. Culture is such a broad term, there's such a diversity of cultures and subcultures - urban and rural (and in between), young and old, religious and not (and a myriad of differences within those broad definitions too), and so on, even within traditionally 'Irish', it's comical how many levels he's wrong on.
I reckon as long as we can be kind to each other (which isn't to say "be a doormat", either
) we all benefit from each other's perspectives and experience. -
@TCatInReality @Remittancegirl If he wants some English-Scots-Irish culture I'd suggest "Fuck off with your racist bollocks you wee lump of Nazi shite".
@Colman @TCatInReality @Remittancegirl Given how much his kind practically drool over the Spartans, perhaps he should be given the Spartan treatment.
I believe upstart Heliots were hunted to death? (Or does he imagine himself an example of the elite of a warrior culture?)

Yes. The term "culture" here is doing the heavy lifting for Musk's warped ahistorical nonsense.
By doing so, it also sidesteps genuine political questions in relation to global economic issues.

@ZDL I notice that almost all the men who are such fans of the Spartans would all have been thrown off a cliff shortly after birth. @Colman @TCatInReality

@TCatInReality @Remittancegirl they're not that distinct from each other, really, but they are very distinct from US culture. The UK/IE cultures are all shaped by Europe and colonial history in different and overlapping ways.
But he means race.
@Colman I think a lot of people I know who are either Scottish or Irish would have a LOT to say about the differences in culture between them and the English. @TCatInReality

@Remittancegirl @TCatInReality they would, but it'd be mostly nonsense because they're so embedded in the mores they can only see the differences.
(I'm somewhere between Irish and English so …. Well, Irish and London. Is London England?)

@Remittancegirl
The English-Scotts(sic)-Irish origin of the culture of New Mexico, does he mean? Or Louisiana? ...Hawaii, maybe? Alaska? Minnesota? Pennsylvania?I hate when these illegal aliens* come here and never even bother to learn about American culture(s).
*Musk came here on a student visa, which became invalid when he dropped out of university. AFAIK, he has never resolved his illegal status.

@TCatInReality @Remittancegirl
The 'English' culture they appear to refer to seems to be ancestrally associated with Germanic tribes that were immigrants in the 5c coming across the channel from the continent in small boats.
No mention ofc of the native Brythonic or Gaelic tribes, the Romans, the Vikings, the Normans... -
@Remittancegirl @TCatInReality To be fair though, culturally hatred, intolerance and inequality were a part of the "HRR" too, but they were religion, gender or class based.

@TCatInReality @Remittancegirl Seems Elmo has declared "English-Scots-Irish" to be the new "Aryan"...
Also, I know a few members of all three cultures & I have the distinct impression that they would tell him to stuff this cross-conflation up his ass.
