The fact that there are so many are clear indications the system is broken
1 is too many.
@stux Myabe there should be just one, you know, like in Highlander.

@stux the big issue is, from an income perspective, they have enough loopholes to not be “billionaires” from a tax perspective. Yes, billionaires should not exist, but at the very fucking least, we HAVE to close these tax loopholes! If they borrow based on their worth and use that as non-taxable income, fix this!!
-
@stux millionaires should not exist. Let’s not mince words.
@js @stux I'm not opposed to millionnaires. You put in hard work and take financial risks and you end up with €1m or even €5m to your name, good on ya. Well done. Enjoy the fact that you'll never need to worry about making ends meet ever again, if that's how you got there.
But it's impossible to get wealthier than that without exploiting vulnerable people. Being financially secure is fine. Being obscenely rich is not. Anything over a SMALL couple of million IS obscene.

@stux I loved AOCs line that billionaires are a policy failure. Indeed.

@stux Even a millionaire is an aberration.
we are closer to being millionaires than a millionaire is to become a billionaire. Here in ireland a detached house is at least half a million euros, which I know is insane, but a few decades ago owning a detached house, two cars, all on one salary for a family of 4 would've been considered "middle class"

@stux
It's a symptom of not enough stock holders having a direct impact on companies & boards of directors, because too many stocks are held by ETFs & investment funds, so the individual stockholders lose touch. It has to be addressed in such a way so that ETF holders have a say in the direction companies take & the salaries & stock options given out -

@stux it has been decades since my #geography degree, but we considered that it wasn’t a deficiency problem but a distribution problem.

The fact that anyone could be desiring of such obscene wealth whist failing to understand the potential value of a better future for all, is at the heart of the human tragedy and the reason why the Fermi Paradox is so existentially un-navigable. -
