@MikeElgan
The kicker will be when enough business’s and government are hooked on the AI kool-aid, the prices will go up even higher than the energy bills we already have to pay to keep the dystopia running.Estamos bien jodidos, seems apposite.

Money being what it is - an illusion controlled by the banks -
It is used to buy power over the quality of life of a certain group.
it does not matter how much 'money' ai is wasting: it is merely buying that inescapable power over other humans.
Power to starve, kill, maim, rape, enslave.
Slavers will pay ANY price to have that power.

@MikeElgan Amazon lost the money that I (probably) won't be able to collect in my entire life within seconds. Good.

@MikeElgan
No, surely that can’t be right. Because the #SpaceX S-1 filing says the market for xAI applications is $22700 billion. And that’s gospel!@nick_appleyard @MikeElgan I love how their “Enterprise Applications” are going to capture roughly 400% of the total worldwide IT spend. Can we please make fraud illegal again?

@MikeElgan "Losing", or just moving around?
-
@MikeElgan And yet there's no sign of the shareholders suing the directors for failing in their fiduciary duties, which I presume means the shareholders are bent as nine bob notes too.
@only_ohm @MikeElgan big tech does not operate like a real business ruled by P&L, but more like an ancient prince who funds an alchemist and a theatre troupe out of the money his underlings extract (smaller VC tech operates like P.T. Barnum if his hicks were very rich men in California) https://www.bookandsword.com/resources/the-political-economy-of-american-tech-companies-since-2008/
-
@MikeElgan I don't think that those companies would spend so much money, with such little short term return if it did not make sense to do it.
What do you think will be the longer term return? Is this a combined competitive loss? Are they each compelled to do this? It seems like a lot but, are any of these companies going broke on this?
What is the end-game here?
@dckim @MikeElgan Look up what MSB and CDO's are and then what happened in 2007. People and companies make financial decisions and not all of them will be good. Only time will tell whether AI was a good investment or not.

@MikeElgan And exactly how many trillion valuation did they add to the their Big Tech sugar daddies?
Let's be honest, last time I checked that was some time ago, alone the difference in MSFT valuation between "growth" and "mature" company P/E was over 2 trillion USD.
That makes the burnt capex look like good PR costs, wouldn't you agree?

@MikeElgan so in short - everyone loses but nvidia?

Reminder: It's an arms race.
You wouldn't expect any visible, immediate profit from an arms race through purchasing bombs and tanks either. Or would you?It's an arms race to control media and the digital infrastructure and by this political power, unrestricted by any rules.

Ce qui étonne, c'est l'insignifiance, à la limite de l'invisibilité, du poids financier de Mistral AI, la "licorne française". Pourtant LeChat marche bien, mais pour ce que je l'utilise ... -

@grootinside @MikeElgan exactely, and an arms race beteeen countries, so expect lobyying disinformation, and public pleas for government hand outs, tax breaks, budget deficits, and environmental exemptions.

@MikeElgan everyone is broke except nvidia apparently
@vampgun @MikeElgan It’s not just Nvidia — it’s nearly the entire semiconductor market. Just look at how much more you have to pay now compared to six months ago for RAM, storage, or CPUs. There’s already a massive shortage of resources. Samsung employees even receive bonuses of up to €300,000 when the company hits certain profit targets.

@MikeElgan I chuckled when I saw who was the only one making profit on it.

@KennedyRichard @sebastian @julesbl @PaulaToThePeople @MikeElgan How would you find my home page for example? For a while now, the only way to search for general knowledge is a site:*subdomain.com search. I see a lot of that independent content around, most people aren't aware of it because there's no true useful search unless you already know where to search. There's no lack of content but there is an incentive to lock it away by initially the corporate search engine owners, now AI owners.

@MikeElgan It is not so much a problem of those red and green stripes today. What you don't see here is that the cost those companies have is rising at a much larger speed than revenue. So the gap gets bigger all the time. Not sure if there is a way out of most of these companies getting bancrupt some point in the future. It can't go on like that indefinitely, not even for the big tankers.
