@jayson_ethan01 When you compose a message there should be symbols at the bottom (depending on what app you use). For me on Tusky, a paperclip adds media, then next is visibility - if you click on it, you should have options. There is a "Direct - post to mentioned users only". Just make sure your message starts with their name. Be aware it's not properly private - I think your Instance owner can read them. Hope that helps @FediTips is a great place for info...

Just to add, this is a real risk but there's no official or easy way for an admin to do this. Admins would have to browse the instance's raw database which isn't exactly convenient.
