it's interesting everyone seems to be assuming i'm talking about games but i'm actually talking about anything. blog posts with AI header images, youtube videos with AI images or thumbnails, books with AI covers, music with AI cover art, etc
but yes also games

@eniko I should have added, I'm not saying you're wrong per se, I'm just saying it unfortunately doesn't matter. The tides of necessity and convenience will *always *win.
And the uncomfortable truth is that we're ALL owned, we all have at least one foot in the system. If that poster doesn't realize that then he's a fucking fool. Attempts to escape our imperial system are just band aids, the system will always catch up and consume you again, and again, and again. There is only one answer to all of this shit, and it's the answer no one wants to hear because it requires real, direct, radical action that requires real skin in the game, and virtually none of us have the courage required.@burly @eniko this idea gets pushed a lot, and on one paw, yes, political action is necessary, and on the other paw, no, AI sentiment is overwhelmingly negative across the entire political spectrum in the US at least and there's pretty strong evidence that AI in advertising decreases attachments to brands, and games made with AI get fewer downloads, and the aggregate data is pretty clear that people do actually care about this.
It's not as fatalistic as people say.

@burly @eniko I wish they cared *more*, but.. no, using AI will directly affect market results in a number of situations, and there's decent evidence that people/critters are in fact voting with their wallets on this when they know what's going on and when they feel empowered to.
Political action is necessary, but don't make the mistake of assuming the masses are totally 100% indifferent to artistic quality. They're not.

What if you used ai to research?
Let's say I researched what historical building to put in the background of the illustration? What if my search engine used ai for this research?
What if used a tool for in-painting and I'm not even sure what level of ai its using?
What if I used reference images that might or might not be ai?
...In the end it's about the image, the quality, the soul. I think ai fails at that.

@eniko I've talked to some bloggers about this and said, "hey, if you have AI generated art as your header, I assume the text is AI generated too" and they've just kind of been like.... "but it's not".
"Okay, but do you see how your blog now looks identical to every other spam blog? Do you see how you've adopted their branding, and how the first thing I see screams 'this is AI'?"

@eniko I literally clicked off an article this morning because it lead with an AI generated image. Easiest tell the information in the site is not gonna be trustworthy.

@eniko Someone got upset with me earlier today because I asked them how I could trust an article that had an AI image in it. They said the article was good. I repeated my question and got blocked. This is the message they missed.

Yes! I just made that exact decision with a document which had a bunch of illustrations with this same caption:"Original illustration produced by the author with AI support"
I immediately thought, the author probably used AI on the text, too. That means I can't trust it.
I'm sure the OP has probably read this paper but I'm adding a link for folks who have not. It shows how meaning can be changed even when the LLM "only" modified the grammar:

@ozzelot @eniko similarly, a local musician has used AI for a poster and it is *tosh*. It’s like AI has never seen a guitar, things are backwards and upside down. The worst thing is the musicians wife is an artist. If he’s ‘that’ll do’ with the poster, I’m not trusting he doesn’t have the same attitude towards his music. Dude you’re an artist, hire a fellow artist like *the one you’re married to*!

I'm sure there are sites out there where you can get struggling artists to do this work for cheaper than using AI.

@eniko When I use AI, I hold full responsibility for truth and accuracy because AI simply can't. I will never blame AI for my mistakes. That would be rediculous. You shouldn't distrust my entire work for using AI.
