@TeflonTrout @azteclady If I'm using a finger, I use the bottom of the pad, closer to the outermost knuckle. I've been diabetic long enough that I can say from experience that you start to lose sensation if you get the wrong spots on your fingertips.
Lately - and I don't recommend this for others, although I do it myself and see the same numbers I get from my fingers - I test with blood from just above one of my knees. I'm far happier to have little spots of healing skin from the pokes, there, and it gives my fingers a break.
My own testing habits started off wrong given that I was never originally prescribed enough needles or other supplies, so I developed bad habits based on that. It's taking me time to unlearn the bad habits, years later.

@mason @azteclady Super common. Until very recently, you would get a finger prick to run a quick check of your iron levels when donating blood.
Now when I donate they have some kind of device that lightly clamps your finger and can sense it through the skin.

@azteclady every year there’s a ‘new’ cure for t1 diabetes that does the social media rounds. Its been this way for more than a decade - there is no cure, and all these social media posts boil down to ‘yet another experimental transplant’
It gets a lot of likes and reboots, all the comments uncritically proclaim ‘yay it’s cured! c=‘ and they forget about it until the next post
Not saying this in a mean way, but other t1d will know what I’m talking about
