    @malteengeler Ich bin in einer ähnlichen „still using it, but have to think about options“ Phase und spiele gerade mit Fedora Silverblue, weil das versucht den Vibe (darf man das noch sagen?)!rüberzubringen.

    @monoxyd @malteengeler wie macht ihr das mit Audio? Das letzte mal als ich mir Linux angeschaut habe gab es keinen Nennenswerten Audiodevice Hersteller mit Linux Treibern. Das ist einer der primären Gründe warum ich bis auf Weiteres nicht von macOS wegkommen werde. Zu viel externe Hardware und Software wo es einfach Null Linux Support gibt.

        @schmittlauch @monoxyd @malteengeler aehm leider nein und selbst wenn dann hat USB Audio Class Limits über die ich (und viele Andere) hinaus gehen will. Audio Routing auf dem Audio Interface wird da nicht generisch abgebildet. Es gibt mWn niemand der professional Audio auf Linux macht / machen kann.

          @hukl ok, meine Audioansprüche sind eher bescheiden... Wenige Kanäle und ein bisserl MIDI tut treiber- und anstandslos bei mir unter Linux... Von welchen Dimensionen redest Du?

            @monoxyd @hukl @malteengeler @schmittlauch Die meisten Audio-Interfaces sind auch USB Audio Class, exponieren erweiterte Mischfunktionen aber nur über proprietäre Protokolle, die spezielle Treiber oder Userspace-Software erfordern.

            Zum Beispiel: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/sound/usb/mixer_scarlett2.c

              @hukl @schmittlauch @monoxyd @malteengeler hatte damit lange keine Probleme mehr. Habe aber auch nur Steinberg, Behringer und Yamaha Kram. Pipewire, wireplumber. Ich finds komfortabler als unter Windows, Mac kenne ich mich nicht aus...

                  @serophos @schmittlauch @monoxyd @malteengeler @skyr Ich hab halt mehr als Stereo 1+2 in und out 😄

                  Ich hab alle 8 + 2 inputs und alle 8 outputs meines Audiointerfaces mit ner Patchbay und externer Hardware verdrahtet. Ich habe N-1 Schaltungen auf der Hardware für verschiedene Szenarien wie remote Gitarrenunterricht, Calls oder Podcasting. Klar kann man mit bescheidenen Ansprüchen an das Audio Setup auf Linux klar kommen aber ich rede schon von anspruchsvolleren Szenarien

                    @hukl @serophos @schmittlauch @monoxyd @malteengeler tjo, schwierig - allein schon deswegen, weil du wohl kaum die bestehende Hardware zugunsten unterstützter Hardware (sofern existent) rausreißen willst...

                        I still use a Macbook because I am used to macOS and - most of all - because the battery life on Apple chips is just outstanding.

                        But with the new macOS 27 ("Golden Gate") Apple is baking surveillance and data synthetisers ("AI") even deeper into it's OS which - to me - reaches the point where I can no longer sufficiently trust the machine. I still run macOS 15 ("Sequoia") but when I am forced to update eventually this will probably be the end of using a Mac.

                        This sucks.

                          @malteengeler Ich empfehle mein #LinuxOnAir Setup: M1/2 MacBook (Air/Pro/Max), Ashari Linux, Cosmic Desktop. Phantastisch.
