my digital footprint is older than most Millennials and Zoomers.
which protocol did you first use to pop your internet cherry?
@blogdiva I was another BITNET user. For a year in 1990. Then we got on the Internet.
In 1995 i was in grad school and, coincidentally, my dad shared the apartment with me. One day i came home to show him a “web page.” I had made my own homepage with my photo, CS work I was doing, etc.
His asked “why would anyone want to read about YOU??” and that’s pretty much where his interest ended.
Thanks, dad.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social we had Prodigy when I was a kid, buuuuut I don't think it was connected to the internet at the time. So I don't know if it counts

I'm sure I racked a hell of a phone bill up playing Mad Maze, though... -

@FeloniousPunk seeeeriously. do you know which was my last of such downloads? i kid you not, The Grey Album. that was 2003-4, at the end of that era.
@blogdiva@mastodon.social @FeloniousPunk@beige.party AH!!!!
THE GREY ALBUM!
The reason my "growing up in Utah" self heard Jay-Z! And also the reason I can recite all of 99 Problems!
and it wasn't until we did private karaoke at a friend's house that my hispanic spouse "let me" do 99 Problems... and figure out WHY my "growing up in Utah, lily white" self SHOULD NOT do 99 Problems at karaoke -

@aud @FeloniousPunk TBH prefer it to both of the originals. Dangermouse’s 99 problems is the remix to end all remixes.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social @FeloniousPunk@beige.party IT'S SO GOOD. I don't think I have a copy, actually, anymore, which is something I should remedy.
I kind of feel spoiled because that album was one of my first exposure to remixes, so a lot of other "remixes" just feel like... oh, the artist sent you the individual tracks and you just... stirred em up a bit? huh. well, that's nice... -

@blogdiva Hard to say. I was active on BBS's in the early '80s. That would have been XModem, I spoze, in terms of protocol, and DEC VT100 emulation from Pro*Comm.
