"Robert came home from USA with a great idea. The result changed Bergen," writes newspaper Bergens Tidende today about the man who planned this building.
Called Auto 23 building locally, this was the place for the city's largest car sales house. The building was drawn by Arent Greve, and was finished in 1938 – and housed Robert Fredriksen's Autocompagniet 23, the headquarter for a car sales company, parts shop, and repair shop. As car ownership really took off after the war, they expanded so much they had to move outside the city centre, and kept going until they closed down in 2015.
The building is still standing, but was expanded with four more floors in 2023, and is now prominently housing a gym behind its large ground floor windows.
