But Mobilizon is also part of the Fediverse, meaning that if you use Mastodon or Pixelfed (or other Fediverse social media) and you fx follow the user "Rave in the forest", every time that user makes a new event on Mobilizon, you get an update directly on your feed.
I set up an event on an existing Mobilizon server, so you can see how it looks:

Join us on the 18/3! The more we are starting this up, the more impact it will have.

@tadoh I’d like to do the same for Stockholm. We have a test instance at https://events.x-berg.de. Future is a bit uncertain right now though because people seem to prefer staying at meetup.com. Would love to be able to offer alternatives.

A brief explanation of what a Mobilizon server is
For the majority of the public, it works just like a homepage where you come and check out events. You see a list of events, can open them and see additional messages from the organizers (fx line-up announcements) or discussions among the participants. You can filter events on some basic parameters.

@tadoh so now that I am here on Mastodon, I have a few questions to this. 1. How do you handle those people that are inevitably still on Facebook (let’s face it it’s gonna be there for a while). So you are free to move but you still want to make sure people come to your events as much as possible. 2. Let’s say I left Facebook and now instead of 1 shitty platform I have 5 nice ones. How do I reduce mental overload (personally and for the network as a whole)?

@aleksdelta welcome
1. It's going to take time. We are for instance not thinking about closing down our Meta accounts in the near future. It's about creating an alternative so that people slowly can transition, and eventually drop Meta. People did transition from FB to IG over time, even if no one thought FB would lose its grip. We started @dukop 15 years ago. It took time, but now we have 20.000 visit/month. It allows people to minimize their meta presence, and in some cases end it. -

2. the good thing of the fediverse is that the 5 new platforms can talk to each other. You are on mastodon now, but you can follow my events that are posted on Mobilizon and see your friends' pictures posted on Pixelfed and follow some forums made on another platform. On these platforms you have no algos and no commercials, nothing sucks you in and wants you stay there.
To be honest, in the long run I also hope that breaking free of algos will mean we will use less some -

Hoping that a new tech-giant will be different is trying the same thing again hoping for a different outcome.
Slowly moving towards decentralized, self-driven platforms is what can break that downwards spiral we are in.
In a way, it's always been about seizing the means of production -

That’s the hard part in my view, but hopefully we can work thru that

@aleksdelta Yes, that's the hardest part. I think there is a need for a lot of help from those of us who are in a position to help that transition, both mentally and technically.
But also: quality over quantity! I'm actually OK by reaching only 10% of my current reach with my events, if those are anyway the people who show up and that I want to show up.
The idea with the promoters project is that if we all move our core guests to the new platform, we minimize reach loss and increase quality.
