Hello everybody,
I'm a bit lost here, coming from "traditional" social platforms. I have no idea how this works and to top it all I'm also too shy to enter people's conversations.So let me introduce myself: I'm a Romanian artist, I paint in oil and acrylic. I am also a voracious reader, always on the lookout for new books. I enjoy most of all historical ones - fiction and non fiction, classic literature is my comfort food, yet I'll not refuse a good mystery or thriller.
@LitteRatty@bookstodon.com You're doing wonderfully. Feel free to enter conversations. Most of us are perfectly fine with that. Most of the others will end up basically ignoring you (yeah, it's rude, but it's probably better than being more overtly rude). Some folk may take days/weeks to reply, but just because they for whatever reason aren't replying.
Oh... arts... Arts are good. I should see if you've shared any.
There's a nice New Zealand book review (may be that title) on PeerTube. I might be able to track it down if you can't. #bookstodon -

@LitteRatty Welcome Manu! I love your portraits. The girl with freckles drinking frothy coffee is really engaging, and the one which is cropped right in to just the act of smoking is interesting.

In addition to the advice given, I'd say follow people who interact with you, and then interact with them.
See who else they interact with and see if you want to follow them too.When you are following a larger number of people, you can start to drop the ones that have no real interest to you, if you want.
The main thing is to interact. People will follow you back if the interactions are good and of interest to them. It is much more like socialising at a party.

Bookworms are especially welcome. And don't worry, most of us don't bite. My advice is to find conversations you're interested in and boost/favourite the posts you like as a way of getting yourself known. Then, in your own time, start to comment on the posts. Before long you'll be floating your own conversations.
An introduction is good, but it's like knocking on the door and loitering on the doorstep. The thing is to come on in.

@LitteRatty Welcome to Mastodon! I felt exactly like that when I joined - no idea how it worked, and wary of making my own posts or replying to people because I'd come from traditional social platforms. You're doing well with your profile and introduction post, and there's nothing that you "have" to do except for working out how you want to use Mastodon.
Following a lot of people is good if you want to populate your own timeline, but even that is not essential as you can watch timelines from your server (bookstodon.com) or other servers.

@LitteRatty hi, welcome!
Would love tot see your art
Concerning books, have you read those by Guy Gavriel Kay? Fantasy based on history, I think they're great. -

@LitteRatty welcome and aloha from Hawai'i Island
My book recommendation is: "morality play" by Barry Unsworth. I don't read a lot of historical fiction, but I really loved this book.
