It kinda feels like there should be a COVID remembrance day for those who have died and become disabled (and continue to die and become disabled) from that fucking disease. Maybe sometime in September to kick off the vaccine season. Or March-April to remember the start of lockdowns. Or November for when the first vaccines were released. Or whatever. Just seems like a pandemic that killed millions of people should be remembered.

@JessTheUnstill I agree, but I feel like if we're commemorating the dead and disabled, it should be from the first case contracted, not the vaccines. The vaccines are awesome, but they also mark the point where those lucky enough to not become (knowingly) disabled by it yet ceased to care about the rest of us.

@JessTheUnstill @astraluma the WHO declaration of pandemic was on 12 March 2020, for reference. Certainly not the start of the deaths, but a notable date nonetheless.

@JessTheUnstill There are many of us who remember it individually everyday, but I agree there should be a day of remembrance observed each year. From your list, I would choose the November day to remind those who haven’t already gotten that autumn’s vaccine that The Time is NOW.

@rubyjones @JessTheUnstill I agree. I had it in Feb. of 2020 and there were already trucks filled with bodies outside of the funeral homes and hospitals. I've been in decline for that long.

@JessTheUnstill I remember arguing with people who were denying the seriousness of COVID at a time literally more people were dying from it every day than 9/11.

While I do think we should commemorate COVID every year, there are others that also would benefit from a day to remind people of its existence. Tuberculosis is the most lethal communicable disease in history, killing on average 1.2 million people a year, all preventable. When I talk to people about this, most are surprised it still exists because they only hear about it in history books.

@JessTheUnstill Yes. That's why making a TB day is crucial, we need people to be aware that over a million easily preventable deaths happen each year because we (our governments) don't care enough.

Edit: We do have a TB day on March 24th, but I'd like it to be printed on every calendar and mentioned heavily on TV and other forms of media.

@JessTheUnstill throwing in another idea: the date of the first recorded case (I forget the date but I know that it is recorded somewhere). If it’s not an international thing and each country gets their own Covid Remembrance Day then they can choose the day that their country started declaring states of emergency etc. because I remember it being different for different countries
