    @ids1024 @Doomed_Daniel @jef @henry I remember seeing a post by someone that wasn't so far removed. When young people no longer have jobs due to automation, we'll just send them into space.

        @pervognsen @ids1024 @Doomed_Daniel @henry Pressure suits optional.

        (I always assumed this was what was going on in Blade Runner with the "off-world colonies".)

          @jef @ids1024 @Doomed_Daniel @henry Hah, that was literally the joke I made, which made me find the original post via search. https://mastodon.social/@pervognsen/115042001184309870

              This is some weirdly myopic tech bro bullshit.
              Advait Palwal, are the talking horses in the room with you right now?
              What are they saying to you?

                  @flq @Doomed_Daniel @phf @jef @henry Soylent Green is, well, you know...

                  You know what I really hate? Gangs of horses hanging out at the cafe all day, hogging all the tables and pooping all over the floor, because they have nowhere better to be.

                  You let just one horse into your cafe, and the next thing you know, you have a horse cafe.

                    @henry It's dumb, but I think I understand the thinking.

                    In the late 1800s horses were everywhere and were almost all working animals, mostly pulling heavy loads.

                    In 2026 the place most people will see a horse is out enjoying its life in a pasture somewhere as they drive past in their car.

                        @henry It's true though. I saw a horse once and it was doing whatever it wanted, and it ate some of the grass on my sidewalk.

                            @merc @henry

                            At the start of the Great Depression, 15% of farmers had tractors. Most farm horses were still working. They were the last replaced, in the 40s and 50s.
