While I was working I would occasionally treat myself to original Matt Beard paintings. When I met him most of his fans seemed to be surfers. The only thing he and I had in common was the art itself. Seeing the California coast through his eyes and talent brought me joy then as it does now.
When I was accumulating all of these paintings I had a huge office with walls. When I retired the paintings came home with me. Sometimes I feel guilty that they are closeted away here. I keep them on our walls because they are safer there. The earthquakes move them but they don't fall.
I'm not sure why I connect with this artist more than others. Why people do things and feel things is a mystery to me. Even when it's me I'm trying to understand.
I own dozens of all shapes and sizes and every one of them speaks to me.
I need to text Matt and tell him again how much I appreciate his talent.
It's been a minute since we talked.

I know you see him occasionally, has he seen all of his paintings in your house? I think that would be meaningful...

@NorcalGma2 It's lovely to hear about someone supporting an artist by buying their work. It's huge deal for an artist, perhaps more even than a collector realises.

He actually came to my office to take them off the walls and stored them until I could figure out what to do. Quitting was very spur of the moment.
He hasn't seen them here. I think it might be overwhelming. There are over seventy paintings in all. There are a handful of really big pieces. I'm not the only collector but I have a large representation of his work.
He never went back to plein air painting again in any quantity after covid. I know he is very much a poet these days. I need to reach out to him.

It is a bit of a special luck to have art that speeks to your soul. I have 4 original pieces from various people, couple prints, couple framed postcards. Three of these things I've found here in fediverse. All of them makes me feel a little bit better when I see them. These days when anybody can have fake AI art taking joy from something someone has lovingly painted feels like a rebellion.
