I wonder how many people have been fingerprinted, or rather, how many have never been fingerprinted?
-
@dtm ...i can't remember.
if i was fingerprinted, it was about 25 years ago, when my house was burgled, for elimination purposes; but they said that they couldn't find any usable fingerprints, so i probably wasn't. but... i can't remember.
@mewsleah As a general rule, I figure they don’t taken anything they aim to give back. If they get them, they keep them.

@dtm yeah, same here... but i still can't remember.
(not being able to remember fairly significant events in my life isn't unusual, though)

I wonder how many people have been fingerprinted, or rather, how many have never been fingerprinted? I have been for both good and bad reasons. I’m totally in the system. Are there large numbers of people who could actually be somewhat anonymous? I find that interesting.
@dtm I work on government installations and in schools. I’ve been fingerprinted a few times. For background search purposes.

@dtm The caveat is that it was when I was very young for a "if your kids get lost or kidnapped" thing and I have no idea if those ever got into the system or if they'd even be remotely close enough now.

@dtm I was fingerprinted as a child as were many kids as a police initiative in my town (dark!), but also then later fingerprinted and handprinted as an adult for reliability clearance by the Federal Government for a job requirement at the time - Telecom is federally regulated - and I had full access to subscriber data & datacentres - so yeah
.So 1000% in "the system" hahaha.

@dtm I was fingerprinted as part of the US immigration system.
They're high resolution ones too, like a person holds your hand and rolls it across a screen and it gets the whole thing, on every finger.
Thanks for bringing to my attention the new nightmare of considering where something I did a quarter of a century and the current shitfuckery in a country I no longer live in meet.

@dtm
In the Philippines, if you want a driving license, you are fingerprinted. So 90% of the adult population. -

@dtm Got bonded for a job once. I don't know how long these things would have stayed in the records; it was about 35 years ago. (Now, of course, I'm sure it stays in a digital database forever.)
But I never learned to drive; thus, never owned an automobile nor had a license plate.

@dtm collected at the airport by immigration. I forgot which country! Might have been Phillippines?

@dtm I was tricked into doing it as a kid anyway, but the only reason I ever had to do it as an adult was because I did substitute teaching for extra money (I'm technically still in the system but too busy with my day job to do it).

@dtm @Unlikelylass I got fingerprinted as a kid because my mom bought into the scary criminals might try to abduct me trope.

@dtm If you haven't been fingerprinted, you've most likely been footprinted. 90% of hospitals still take footprints of newborns today. Chances are, if you were born from the 1960's on, you were foot-printed as a baby.
This was done to aid in the investigation of missing children or kidnappings. Some mother's were fingerprinted at the same time as their baby's footprinting.
And of course the nostalgic keepsake from that amazing day.

https://www.usbirthcertificates.com/articles/hospital-baby-footprints@Nead Yes, this is certainly true, but there are not really any databases for footprints.
