Surprised that Netflix is AGAIN raising their price in Denmark today, I looked up the monthly price of Netflix premium across 6 EU countries:

@eclectech @randahl OMG. As if people don't understand what they are spinning. High five. I unsubscribed years ago after a big price jump after they had made really crappy UI decisions that drove me nuts, as well as their "because you watched this" algorithm making it difficult find new stuff. (Because I watched one Bollywood movie didn't mean I only wanted to watch all Bollywood stuff, and they had no "shove your algorithm" button.

@randahl to be fair in countries with lower price there are less serials/films available -

)@CStamp @randahl It was truly appalling. It actually annoyed me more than the price rise (assuming I *didn't* want the ads).
We dip into different streaming services occasionally (ideally with a short intro offer - binge anything we want to watch, then ditch) but don't have any permanent subs any more.

@randahl
I dumped Netflix last month when they raised their rate $2 in the US. I stuck with them through other increases but this time I realized that I haven't been using the service enough to justify paying more. -

@randahl You do realise that there are like … different average salaries across those countries? And that if you adjust to those then Denmark has *by far* the cheapest Netflix subscription from this list?

@randahl Remember how back during the pandemic, all the big streaming platforms reduced bitrates (and thus image quality) across the board, in an effort to “keep the internet healthy”?
Notice how they never turned the quality back up after the pandemic?

@randahl the cost disparity between Romania and Denmark probably has something to do with earning power in each country, seems roughly lines up to the median hourly wage (2022), so you can say Netflix is kind of being fair in that respect.

@randahl you made the right choice.
I unsubuscribed, in the last two years, from Netlix, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Disney+, everything. Part because of their pricing going skyrocket, part because of... Trump.
They don't deserve our money.1/2

There are alternatives: streaming movie database of movies old enought to be rights-free.
Free streaming services (like state-television, public, ones. In Italy, we have RaiPlay, it is free, it have... not everything, but some good stuff).
And I started to go again to the local "mediateca", sort of public library, but with DVDs instead of books. Free. Public. With thousands of movie of all sort.

@randahl
By contrast, Danish public broadcaster DR costs around 15€ per household per month. (7 € per person).Perhaps it would be better to negotiate "collectively"?
