I'm watching Lars von Trier's first movie; "The Element of Crime"
We're in a strange flooded post/mid apocalyptic Europe (no further definition).
Everything is yellow/brown sepia. Like a BW movie done on color film via manipulations (I know because there are traces of blue and red too)
A serial killer is on the loose. And the visuals are a giant Tarkovsky homage. We've got the horse carriage with apples from Ivan's childhood. The interiors, mirrors, curtains, lighting.
I really am enjoying it -

I really am enjoying itHowever, It's making me want to rewatch Tarkovsky.
Ivan's childhood. Stalker. The Mirror. And yes Andrei Rublev. Which is bloody amazing. But may need a few days (luckily its in chapters).
I recommended everyone to see those. They're free on yt somewhere because the production company released them.
I have holes in my knowledge though. Still missing Solaris and Nostalgia.
Anyway.. Back to von Trier

@BogWitch IIRC both Lenfilm and Mosfilm made their whole soviet catalogue available on YouTube at some point.
(Way before the war, obviously…)

We have burning books, police brutality, climate breakdown.
And now I'm thinking it's a bit like Alien3 (which, for the record, I love). What I mean by that: It's a Hieronymus Bosch color/lighting. And almost all men.
I really like Kim and the house maid at Osborne. But this is very early Trier. So still mostly dudes.
We are in Hell. It's 40mins in and really was quite clear from the beginning. But now I'm catching on..

Hell, Halle...
Some amazing images in this movie.Plot-wise a bit anaemic.
Enjoy this pic of young almost enby Lars von Trier in the role of "Schmuck of Ages"
