Slept outside in a tent in the garden tonight to test the feasibility. I had a rather big mattress on a waffle-foam layer, a thick sleeping bag, a pillow, a sheep skin, a wool blanket, a a lot more clothing than I like to sleep in generally (as soft as possible though). I also had 1 tubescarf for my neck and 1 over my head leaving just my face free
It was maybe between 2°C and 6°C (clouds came in). I froze my nose mostly in the beginning.
Slept fitfully..
Not entirely a success. I'm pretty tired -

Not entirely a success. I'm pretty tiredI'm generally really not fond of sleeping in tents or sleeping bags. But I'm going on a retreat with the sleep options: big common dormitory or in your own tent.
Now I'm leaning towards dormitory. I do have good ear plugs after all. And I need my sleep.
..I guess I learned I can get *some* sleep in a tent. Even this time of year. Better bring the gear as a backup

@BogWitch that's a difficult dilemma. I don't like sleeping in a bag either but likewise sleeping in a room full of people is off-putting

@PJPaints Exactly.
It's just the facilities that are available. Not super fancy - but also not what I'm going for (luxurious relaxation)..I'm hoping I can just ignore it a bit. With luck I'll be quite tired from the activities and just pass into sleep easily

Not entirely a success. I'm pretty tired@BogWitch I think that temperature range is below the level for human comfort, to be fair. It won't kill you, but if you've not trained for it, you're not ever getting good sleep.
Last retreat I was on (dzogchen) the dorms were cosy.

@dgold I was wrapped up enough that I wasn't cold. Once the temp in the tent rose, my nose stopped freezing too (I was considering getting a lightweight balaclava).
Honestly I think I woke often because of all the bundly layers... And perhaps a bit of psychological 'unusual sleeping conditions'-unease.
