Movie idea: an introverted Finnish boy from Kemijärvi and an extroverted Portuguese girl from Lagos connect on an online forum about #climate action.
They decide to meet halfway. Defying their families wishes to travel by plane they'll travel with three day #interrail passes, the furthest their budget reaches.
Will their love overcome the harsh reality of the European train system?
@Pepijn I would like to propose to make it into a mini series that switches between the two protagonists for each episode.
(Edit to add:) This gives you more time to explore each country and give each episode a different feel based on local culture and railway system.

@Pepijn i love the idea, but could it be both main characters are women? Make it a lesbian train story too?
@quixoticgeek Sure. Whatever works with the actors. I think it'd be nice to get some real locals from both ends of #europe

I would seriously enjoy watching this movie btw. It can become a proper feel good story about two young people on a shared (connected digitally, then physically) adventure. And by traveling by train it can also be a very #european story.
Traveling by train also makes for an excellent opportunity to show lots of relatable human interaction on the way, both on trains and in the places along the way.
Anyway. I'd watch it.
@Pepijn I'd watch it too! But it could be a series. Each country/change they pass through an episode, exploring a bit of the local stuff and encounters etc.

Some people met on the train:
- rude and offending white business guy compkaining aboug a three-minute-delay
- train nerd, talking two hours about different signaling systems. @langsamfahrt can provide contacts.
- Parents following their little children exploring the length of the train. Twice.
- Relaxed couple bringing their own tablecloth to the bord bistro to celebrate their kanelbullar and tea/coffee. -

@bovine3dom Haparanda to Kemijärvi is about 200 km. Malmö to Haparanda is about 1500 km.And Malmö to Lagos (Portugal) is about 3100 km. I think that puts the middle somewhere just north of Frankfurt am Main.
That is, if I managed to pick "only train routes" and my rough distance estimates aren't too far off.
If you pick Helsinki (and ignore any route that takes you on a ferry from Sweden to Finland...), the halfway point is approximately Hamburg.

Fantastic idea. I'm sure EU would support the project too. I remember an action (?) tv series a some years ago called "The Team" I think this was also supported by EU funding.

@vatine sorry, this was a joke about it being half way in travel time - it took Jon ~48 hours to get from the start to leaving Haparanda, because he got stuck in Haparanda for 24 hours due to all the trains being cancelled that day

Some people got the wrong impression so let me be clear: No, I am not a #movie maker. Closest I got was a #film of my cat licking its own arse that somehow got a million YT views..
I do think this is in essence a good idea. Naturally there's many ways to go (handheld camera fake documentary style, narrated anthology etc) and lots of subplots to include. Anyone interested can contact me and I'd happily collaborate as it sounds like something that can potentially grow into something interesting.

@anport Hah. I should've known someone would ask.
It's long been deleted from Youtube as some company claimed copyright on it (meaning they can "monetize" it) and YT has no real mechanism to fight that. Tomorrow I'll see if I can find it on my local storage.
