@FediTips Any tips on posting gifs? I can’t seem to figure out how to efficiently do this on the official mastodon app, sometimes they are animated and sometimes they are still images and I can’t really figure out why

I'm currently thinking of moving to a new server but I read this is not a straight process if I want to transfer my posts/followers/following, etc. Could you direct me to a comprehensive source on transfering my account to the account on the new server? Is it possible? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Copy-paste the video's web address from the browser into your search box on Mastodon. This will make the video appear in your Mastodon timeline and you can comment by replying.
You can also subscribe by following the account and like the video by favouriting it. If you follow, the videos will start appearing in your Mastodon timeline and you won't need to copy-paste to comment on them.

There isn't currently a direct equivalent to Facebook Groups in Mastodon, but if you're wanting general tips on moving to Mastodon I'd recommend the "Quick Start" section at the top of the page on the website https://fedi.tips

How are you posting GIFs? Are you uploading GIF files or copy-pasting addresses from GIF services?

it works. But why there is no option to "open URL in mastodon", like..it should be done directly: Peertube share -> open on mastodon. Also I cannot dislike video from mastodon? -

Also I cannot dislike video from mastodon?There are thousands of Mastodon servers and people may have accounts on multiple different servers, so PeerTube doesn't know exactly where on Mastodon you want to open it. Such an option would require you to type the name of your Mastodon server, so it would still be a bit fiddly. But this is how Mastodon share add-ons work on websites, so this feature could be added, good suggestion!
You can't dislike from Mastodon because Mastodon has no interface for sending negative votes.

Can you try doing the same methods via your server's website too? (For you that would be https://techhub.social)

@FediTips i'm still pretty new to this stuff. I have a question about stickers and emojis. Why do my stickers not appear on my keyboard when I'm on the mastodon app for iPhone? And how do people make their own emojis? I'm guessing it's because they have their own servers but I was hoping there's another way

There is no compatibility with stickers on Mastodon so the keyboard doesn't show them. I've just had a look at the Mastodon github for more info, it seems that because Mastodon isn't a messaging app the stickers aren't a priority. A workaround for this would be to manually upload images that correspond to the stickers.
Custom emoji are made by the admin on your server. If you would like more custom emoji added, ask your server admin about it (for you that's @seano ).

Oof, thanks for reminding me about translation. That worked when masto.nyc was running out of my apartment but we haven't prioritized getting it up and running since we moved to the cloud
As for emojis- honestly tons of people have requested emojis and we haven't said no to any of them yet
so just let us know what you want added and it's as easy as that! -
Yeah, translation is an optional feature activated by the admin (it's optional because it costs more for the admin to host such a service).
