A top recurring gripe is when revolutionary / aspirational / art / left projects direct their audience to participate in corpofascism. I get the arguments {I gotta make a living, go where the audience is, use the oppressors' tools against them} & I am not pure by any means. I currently use IG, YT, & Twitch (& Google & Apple)—but I aspire to escape them all. What bothers me when any lefty wholeheartedly justifies participation in corpofascism it reinforces the message that better isn't possible.

The latest corpofascist coercion that I've discovered just today, that will hasten my abandoning YT, is that embedded videos are not playing within my mastodon desktop interface. Instead YT issues an error implying that the problem is on the fedi side—I'd be willing to bet that the problem is commerce & control related, not tech limitations (considering embedding YT videos worked here until recently). With all that in mind, see link in next post for a no narration sunrise video.

In the event that this error is within Mastodon's control to correct could anyone forward it to the proper Mastodon maintainers? (I suspect this "error" is more likely an intentional result of YouTube enshittification but who knows!)

This video is embedding correctly on your original page, at least when I view it in my browser?
I wonder if there's some kind of browser setting different between us?
(To be clear though, Ido agree with your assessment of YouTube/Google, they are an evil corporation.)

@FediTips so you're able to play it within the feed in your browser? That's good data. I use Vivaldi on an out of date MacOS. The error/refusal to play YouTube videos from fedi feeds may be related to my laptop's specifics. Sometimes I get to watch ad-free videos on YT. Sometimes not. Recently YT "warned" me that if I didn't change my settings they'd deactivate my ability to view videos. I primarily watch YT from Vivaldi on iphone where I do not get ads or warnings.

Ahhh you're right, it does produce the same error when I play it.
Sorry about that! I thought the error was appearing in the embed before playing.
I'm using an up-to-date Linux machine with Firefox and have the same error so I don't think it's your computer or browser.

@FediTips @RMiddleton A fix for "YouTube Error 153" was committed a few days ago. YT started insisting on getting a referrer header to learn what sites are embedding videos, so Mastodon devs added an exception to provide that.
