A joke I can relate to:
As in ze German language, we commonly use “Auslautverhärtung” (also called “Endlautverhärtung”), “final-obstruent devoicing” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final-obstruent_devoicing), “pig” and “pic” sound the same unless we really try hard to be non-non-native speakers.
