70.5% of Starbucks baristas are women.

@RedKoba @amydiehl @quixoticgeek The problem isn’t autism — I know plenty of neurodivergent folks who are lovely.
The problem is psychopathy and narcissism.

70.5% of Starbucks baristas are women. Starbucks now requires them to perform additional emotion labor by writing a personal message on customers' cups. If not sufficiently nice, they are disciplined. They must perform friendliness but make it look spontaneous. https://qz.com/emotional-labor-starbucks-baristas-green-apron-service-051926
@amydiehl i just want coffee. i don't need a pep talk.

@michaelgemar @RedKoba @amydiehl exactly.

@quixoticgeek @michaelgemar @amydiehl
I was thinking about Altman or Musk, who are diagnosed autistics
Probably sociopaths too but there is no diagnosis yet
@RedKoba @quixoticgeek @michaelgemar @amydiehl Do not blame their behavior on autism. We are capable of having fucking morals.

@amydiehl Do the suits not understand that forced smarminess is easily detectable and that customers like me actively avoid it?

@amydiehl I've been boycotting Starbucks since they destroyed the Coffee Connection, and that was 30 years ago. In all that time, I've never seen one single story about them to make me change my mind. That run continues uninterrupted.

@RedKoba I think using ”autistic” as a general-purpose slur involving toxic behavior is way out of bounds. Please don't.

Don't get me wrong, the autistic part was of the stereotype about being unable to understand other humans. We all know Sheldon Cooper is not real but that's how is portrayed in the collective imagination

@timbray @RedKoba @michaelgemar @amydiehl agreed.
-
@RedKoba @michaelgemar @amydiehl @quixoticgeek well that's pretty goddamned offensive. Not to mention patently false.

@amydiehl it’s been this way there for years, I left in 2019. the last 1.5yrs there is when they really started cranking this stuff up big time
-
@amydiehl Didn't these C-suite bozos watch Office Space back in the day? It's Jennifer Anniston's character not having enough flair all over again!
... According to Reddit, that film is the reason TGI Friday staff stopped having to do similar.

@RedKoba @Epic_Null @quixoticgeek @amydiehl I’m sure you didn’t mean to offend, but I’d stop digging.

@RedKoba @michaelgemar @amydiehl @quixoticgeek
You could have picked white men, a much more accurate demographic, but chose neurodivergent people.
I'm not sure how deep your experience of Autistic people is, because in my experience they are often far more empathetic than normies, and I have a lot of experience in this area.
Case in point, more likely to be interested in animal welfare, less interested in racism and far right ideology.

@amydiehl Reminds me of Jennifer Anniston's "flair" in the movie "Office Space."

@ianto_jones @michaelgemar @amydiehl @quixoticgeek
My intention was not to be offensive to people with autism; that would be self-offensive. The people I'm talking about identify themselves as autistic. And, of course, my intention wasn't to be precise; there is a difference between using correct terms and terms everyone understands.I hate to be on that side, but I don't believe in all that woke stuff. I don't care about words or definitions but about material reality.
