Hamburg, only +7 amazingly. So the next leg of #LongestTrainEU will go to MANNHEIM on ICE 771
@jon Did you have to go via Bad Oldesloe?

@jon Good to know. Thanks and enjoy the train to Mannheim

So I wondered... as #LongestTrainEU is now amazingly ahead of schedule, could I get *further* than Genève tonight
How about a, say, 19:00 TGV Strasbourg - Lyon
Ah no
The last train between France's 8th and 2nd cities goes at... 16:15 🤬🤬🤬🤬
Going to Genève makes pretty much no sense, geographically, but the Swiss do actually like running trains. The French, not so much!

Here's the #LongestTrainEU music track for København – Hamburg
Found thanks to this post:
https://mastodontti.fi/@muep/117162146728097770VLTJ - Tørfisk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_fqrcyG_8sFull playlist on Youtube
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQfeggpU3vqAAnd my thread is up to date, just before Kolding

@jon I *love* that VLTJ somehow landed on your list.
I practically grew with that song, but it's also such a remote and obscure train line in Jutland.

@jon I studied in Strasbourg while my family lived near Lyon and did this train journey many times to go home for a holiday, but never bothered with the weekend as there was never a good train to make it work on a Friday night.

@lobingera Yep. Why would I use the SNCF Connect shitshow?

@jon ... in germany we learned, that all solutions outside of DB are better ...

@jon this is why I went via Switzerland on my way back from Barcelona. I cannot get my head round what SNCF call a timetable.
-
@jon ... in germany we learned, that all solutions outside of DB are better ...
@lobingera @jon at least DB attempt to run trains at useful times. SNCF just deletes them from the schedule at first difficulty. If they even made it onto a schedule.
-
@jon ... in germany we learned, that all solutions outside of DB are better ...
@lobingera Believe it or not, but it can be worse… And bahn.de is still the best place to look upp train schedules in my opinion. Easy to use and you can find most trains in Europe there. @jon

@lobingera In this case it is not true. DB Navigator is *miles* ahead of anything SNCF can make.

@jon In case TGV 9560 to Paris is delayed (only if, probably not), you could catch a southbound intercité de nuit from Paris.

@jon 20 years ago there was also a night train Strasbourg-Nice. Of course that one is also long gone. Was my first night train. Entered in rainy Strasbourg ~18 degrees. Woke up in the morning to see (and smell!) lavender in the sun. Awesome!

@jon "The last train between France's 8th and 2nd cities goes at... 16:15"
No train at 19:00? Ah, a Teddy Bears' Picnic train service:
"At six o'clock their Mommies and Daddies
Will take them home to bed
Because they're tired little Teddy Bears" -
@sebwilken @jon and arrival in Copenhagen around 8:00 would be tough because of the amount of trains during rush hour I suppose.

@RensBloom Nope. Different Paris terminals. Not allowed. RER is not Single European Rail Area.

@jon @lobingera Is that DBNav on android? I don’t think I can get the ios version to show a screen like that…

@grlodi @sebwilken Loads of SJ's night train carriages lack approval for anywhere other than Sweden. And there might be loading gauge issues too.
