    Oh whoops laying off your engineers and replacing them with AI didn't work out? You lost all the goodwill of your remaining employees and the skill of the ones who left? Poor baby, who could have done this to you https://eshumarneedi.com/2026/07/03/zuckerberg-admits-metas-layoffs-were.html

    @cwebber Explaining to the boss why the project isn't done yet, "the trajectory of the agentic development over at least the last four months hasn’t really accelerated in the way that we expected."

      @cwebber This together with the fact that they are trying to rent out their excess compute capacity paints quite an interesting picture

        I'll laugh when all this incompetence finally means Meta disappearing from the world and Zuckerberg on the way to actual poverty.
        It continues to be one of the most powerful entities on the planet. Zuck owns a big chunk of Palo Alto outright. And Kauai.

            @cwebber

            he wasted billions on a virtual reality where the avatars were Weebles (no legs), wasted vast amounts on AI for no gain. when does the tech press finally admit this guy shouldn't be in charge of a takeout order, much less a massive corporation?

              @cwebber

              Conversations he was having “with our top people” when they started planning the restructuring in January and February “were that they were worried that we weren’t going to move fast enough to adapt,” Zuckerberg said.

              Maybe this top people where not so top at all?

                @ohmu @cwebber We should be so lucky. The problem with organizations that big is that they persist for years if not decades on sheer inertia.

                      @cwebber Zuckerberg isn't trying to find new products, he is trying to convince investors that he is finding new products so he can sell stock and make money without needing to make a profit.

                            @cwebber the funniest parts is that the author of the blog believes that zuckerberg was just holding the llms wrong (“AI-assisted programming has developed in the last six months — contrary to Zuckerberg’s claim that it ‘hasn’t really accelerated’ — but indeed not in the way Meta expected, because Meta’s vibes-based management this time was just plain wrong. AI never had the potential to replace so many workers at an instant.”)

                            @mawhrin @cwebber Yeah, it seems way more sympathetic to Zuck than he deserves. He's rich because FB is a river of ad money. He's bought up any competitor that might divert the river of ad money. The real reason no one wants to use the Metaverse is that he created it for the river of ad money, and didn't think about any actual human users. He's unable to create anything of actual value to anybody.

                                  Any lottery winner can be a rich CEO. It takes rather more to be a successful one.

                                      @CStamp @cwebber the worst in that statement is that Meta was also very strong at dismissing the pandemic and forcing their own workers to return to the office "because it foster collaboration".

                                        @CStamp @cwebber the worst in that statement is that Meta was also very strong at dismissing the pandemic and forcing their own workers to return to the office "because it foster collaboration".

                                        @hub @cwebber Yeah, if he couldn’t manage collaborations with the thing he wanted others to use, it didn’t have a hope.
