My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.

Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.

Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too.

Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.

    – George

@georgetakei Sad. He and his roles as Chekov and Alfred Bester (Babylon 5) will be unforgettable.

@georgetakei - A wonderful human and talented actor. I especially loved him as Bester in Babylon 5.

A sad day, but hopefully a life fully lived, and definitely someone who worked to leave such a positive mark on so many.

@georgetakei he also played a secondary role in Babylon 5. Don't remember the name of the character, the important guy among telepaths.

@aurisc4 @georgetakei Chekov was a fun character to watch, but I'm very glad that Koenig got a chance to show off his acting skills in Babylon 5 as Bester. He stole every scene he was in!

@georgetakei So many fond memories of mr Koenig. I have regrettably never met any of my Star Trek of Babylon 5 heroes in real life, but you, mr Koenig and your Star Trek colleges and his Babylon 5 colleges all have a special place in my heart and memory.

My heartfelt condolences to you and to all who hold a special place in their heart for Walter Koenig.
