a question please for people who are here and on bluesky:
-
@Tim_Eagon
thank you and i have not, but as i said in my post, i don't want to do that because i know it upsets people.@moonrabbit I've never had an issue with people on Bluesky regarding my bridged Mastodon account. I've seen the reverse though.
-
@moonrabbit you alt text all your cute little guys, so people there will boost, too

And you might find some other artists you like and want to talk to! OiShiny does beautiful wire wrapping. Jeremy's Creatures makes weird little fabric guys.
@coral
ty so much for this! i'll have a look. the thing is that i'm sure there are lots of lovely people on there, but even if i find them and escape the initial vibe, i just don't have the time/energy to be online any more than i am here. if that changes though ...but yes heaps of thanks again, and i'll investigate the feed

-
@moonrabbit I follow a whole bunch of crafters there, folks making stuff to make their living, and everyone chooses to engage differently. But what they all have in common is they drive sales by mostly just pictures, and by having their product drops be regular, like whenever they happen, the new stuff always goes live on the same day at the same time.
but there is an audience who loves ceramics on tumblr, and all the content I have seen you post here would be enjoyed there.
@raye @moonrabbit My usecase for Tumblr is just to follow folks who make artisan crafts (and pagan stuff), and there does seem to be an active community there!! Including folks I have not found on Masto or Bsky.
I can't attest to how much it affects sales but as they keep posting with frequency, I have to assume they get some from there.

a question please for people who are here and on bluesky:
sigh. i don't want to start up over there but equally i don't want to get evicted for not paying my rent, and i might find some new customers if i try another platform.
but i did try it once, briefly and a while back, and i didn't last long. so i'm wondering whether it's the sort of place that i could just post sculpture photos and not really engage beyond that? i don't like the idea of doing that, but i can't maintain a presence in two places, i'm *not* leaving here, and i just didn't feel ok with the atmosphere on bluesky and wanted to hide when i tried it before. (and i'm not doing a bridgey account because i know that upsets people)
if anyone has any insights/ideas, i'd be very grateful.
thank you!
(please boost if you don't mind)
@moonrabbit Different people have different experiences on BlueSky, but unless your art is particularly interesting/novel, you probably won't get a whole lot of engagement without interacting with others.
Feeds can be useful for getting your posts "found", and can help get more eyes on your work, but you'd have to put in the work to find appropriate Feeds and do whatever is required to get your posts to show up in them. Feeds are mostly maintained by individuals, so they can come and go in terms of popularity.

@moonrabbit I'm on bluesky and like it a lot. As ever with social media, your experience depends to a large extent on who you follow.

@moonrabbit Their Discover feed is (was? maybe they changed it) massively biased towards your profile text so keep that in mind.
And since you don't want to post about every day stuff I would suggest that you do a flashback Friday every Friday and post ceramics. And new stuff when you have that of course. You can use software to make the same post for multiple platforms so you only have to write it once. -
@thebaywindowgirl
thank you lovely. and yeah that's what i figured. and i just can't do two.how's the jewellerying going? and how are you?

@raye tyvm
i've just gone to it and the homepage is a bit overwhelming, but i'll see if i can get through it!
you ok?

@BlueAppaloosa thank you so much. and that's what i figured, but i figured it couldn't hurt to ask ...

@janjonesauthor
hello! how are you?and thank you. i wasn't even on it for long enough really to follow anyone; i think it's just that it felt a lot like twitter to me.
but i'm glad to know you like it. maybe i'll have another look ...

i really don't like the idea of cross-posting through, which i guess is part of the problem: i would have to do everything twice and i just can't. but v good to know re the profile text! -

@moonrabbit Apologies if you tried this already, but would it help to put an explanation in a pinned post?
That way at least, you hopefully would feel less obligation/pressure to acknowledge any interactions. If that was part of the problem (I had weird feelings about it when I did a "no interactions" account on twitter, though that was a very different kind and era)

I wish I could do more than wish you luck sorting it out, but my own art gets lost in the shuffle no matter where I place it, so... yeah.

-
@thebaywindowgirl that's all very good, well done! even on the rain, because probably you wishing for it had something to do with its happening?

@sinvega thank you so much, i have not tried that. i lasted erm maybe 2 days on bluesky before?
but yes that's definitely an idea. if i end up trying again, i'll try it, thank you

Two suggestions
1. hook up with Mastodon.art if you want to increase your visibility as an artist. @Curator may be able to advise
2. Pixelfed is based towards image posts and is part of the Fediverse #pixelfed , read about it here: https://fedi.tips/pixelfed-photo-sharing-on-the-fediverse/

️@moonrabbit Oh definitely. I only had to wish for a couple of months too.
How are things Over There, any progress with the Welsh house? And how is Kitten? (sorry if you’ve posted about all this and I’ve missed it). -
Aw, that's sweet.
I have all my stuff pinned and you're welcome to visit when you run out of important things to do.I hope you can get the rent paid and maybe even buy some food and stuff.
