    Once again, I find myself begging FOSS folks to recognize that open source is, by construction, a political movement. The onus is thus on us to make sure that our politics are in keeping with our actual values.

    We cannot, especially during a global resurgence of fascism, act like it's possible to be apolitical.

      @xgranade It must be pure coincidence that all the successful people who advocate for apoliticalness end up as assholes and fascists later on, for some reason.

        @mayintoronto @xgranade

        Turns out that there's a difference between "I don't want YOUR politics involved" and "I don't want MY politics involved"

          @mayintoronto @xgranade The thing is that women and girls and gays and transgender folk are political by our very existence. No laws are put in place with regards to male healthcare, etc. When a girl/woman is raped, she is presumed to be a liar until a court says otherwise. Etc.

          So being apolitical is a position of immense privilege, ignoring the world's reality.

            @xgranade I disagree. Free Software is a political movement, but open source is not.

            #FreeSoftware #OpenSource #FOSS

              @CStamp @mayintoronto @xgranade

              indeed!

              i'd even say that apolitical is a gross misuse of incredible privilege.

                @xgranade EVERYTHING is #political:

                Those who claim otherwise are either one of these:

                • Fascists (almost always!):
                  • Who want to deny marginalized peoples' right to exist
                  • Who are so privilegued to be unwilling to acknowledge their privilegues
                • Opressed (rarely) as in:
                  • They are suffering under a regime that literally looks for an excuse to publicly murder them on the streets!

                  @CStamp @onepict @mayintoronto @xgranade being apolitical is a position of ignorance, same as fascism. When the world generally bends in your direction, it's hard to understand how to handle someone making it a little more flexible.
