Waymo has issues with San Francisco bike lanes https://futurism.com/future-society/waymo-bike-lanes-traffic
We start removing our bike lanes in #toronto the same day Waymo puts their first cars in the streets for testing (plan to rollout by 2028)
Yes I am suspicious AF #waymo #ontario #biketooter #onpoli
@renata How many strikes before we just ban automobiles in cities, because this would certainly be one.
-
@renata WTF?!
'…Waymo told safe street advocates that bike lane-awareness is “too high a bar,” because customers want to be dropped off in them.’
I’m failing to see why legally this is even remotely relevant. It would be like allowing them to speed or run red lights because customers want to go faster.
@Chigaze @renata In #Germany, this would basically count as admitting to violating #TrafficCode on Purpose, which is at least doubling the penalty and gets driving licenses suspended due to the driver 'proving to be socio-psychologically unfit for the responsibilities of participating in traffic'…
- And we ain't talking about mere #fines here, but "Endangering Traffic Participants" is entering #felony territory with (in this case) at least a temporary license suspension if not permanent ban from reacquiring a driving license unless cleared with a psych eval.
- And given #Waymo is a #business doing that, this means it's a #CriminalEnterprise who's actions aim against laws, so they can be banned as a #CriminalOrganization and their assets seized as well as their entire staff from CEO to driver/janitor/dispatcher arrested for their roles.
And now you know why Waymo won't come to Germany.

@dannotdaniel @datarama @Chigaze @renata also in Germany and we ain't even doing 10% of Dutch Cycling Infrastructure…
-
-
@Nerde @Chigaze @renata they won't unless forced at gunpoint or at least facing jailtime…

@Chigaze @renata It was recently changed but Waymo couldn’t get tickets in California. There may be other places where driverless vehicles cannot get a ticket.
Remember that these types of violations by AVs aren’t a momentary lack of judgement or attention but a design choice that was debated in meetings by multiple people
@geodarcy @Chigaze @renata in Germany, EVERY VEHICLE MUST HAVE A LICENSED DRIVER and that person behind the wheel is 100% responsible for said vehicle!
- Will be fun to see #Waymo even try to get commercial transport permits, as they'll need people with 2 years of valid license willing to put that on the line for a Criminal Enterprise…
-
"It's great they remove the bike lanes, it will reduce traffic, the lanes sit empty anyway"
Oh yeah do you think they're emptying the lanes for YOU, Josh? That's... special.
Wait until you see a line up of driverless, empty cars where those "empty" bike lanes used to be, Josh.
@renata Highways and Train Tracks too are mostly empty too, but those don't get converted into cycling paths either…
-
@CStamp That’s the idea, they only think about themselves.
So if something affects them directly (imminent unemployment and death of the only job they have had for the last five years) they will care about it
@renata @CStamp Most of the people doing tjat are already dead inside, much less able and willing to organize or god forbid unionize.
People who unsarcastically think "The Grindset" is something to aspire for will gladly commit to a Criminal Enterprise
-
@renata The automobile industry bought and destroyed most of the train and streetcar infrastructure in the USA decades ago. This is a part of the regular playbook and I will not be surprised when this "theory" turns out to be true.
-
@renata @digipooch And the Alberta government now.
@WanderingHuman @renata @digipooch People should just block lanes.
#CriticalMass / #KidicalMass style…
-
@retrosponge @renata German Police will have a field week with #Waymo…
-
@renata ooo goodness, I do not care for these ghouls or their ghost cars

@cargot_robbie @renata sadly they do care about you and will make your life miserable the second you ain't a paying customer to them…
-
@adavid @renata in fact there needs to be real #consequences for this shit!
https://tech.lgbt/@Netzblockierer/117471633979384122 -
@sewblue @zed @renata that's what happens when traffic code violations have no #consequences.
-
@renata Toronto drivers better get ready to have even more traffic problems. I've seen firsthand how these stupid things block traffic. How is that even legal?!
@afilina @renata good question.
Certainly ain't in Germany, and that is a good thing!

@renata oh wow, they don't even hide that they program their cars to explicitly do illegal things like stopping on a bike lane "because that's what customers expect".
-
@renata I realize you don't need any more convincing, but holy shit, waymo is a plague. Worst, to me, is that with all their cameras, they're traveling surveillance machines. That's why you always see them burning at big protests here - it's not random property destruction, it's self-defense.
-
@renata They are a nuisance here in San Francisco. I've experienced them blocking the entrance to my Cancer Hospital when I arrive for an appointment, and they're still there when I leave.
I'm in survivor care now. But so many other patients aren't doing as well, and having the entrance blocked is an ordeal for many.
Not to mention their freezing when we had a black out. They just sat there, unable to make left turns without a functioning street light.
@kristinHenry @renata in Germany they would've been impounded by police for blocking emergency access and "pointless driving within city limits".
-
This things are a scourge. If you can, keep them out of your town or city.
@mastodonmigration @renata I know they won't be allowed.to operate in Germany at all…
