Coming soon in Mastodon 4.6 - a redesigned profile page.
-
@crittero Mastodon GmbH has chosen to disable them but continues to show those that are enabled
-
I'm looking at your profile on the mastodon.social site (running an early 4.6) and your home instance and other than the custom fields being compacted a bit, I don't really see much of a difference:
-
@Mastodon @imanijoy I can see my own profile when i go to https://mastodon.social/profile/edit , but when I click any of the edit icons i get the an error again, but it only says “Something went wrong while loading this screen.”
-
There's much more to discover! Read the blog post for more information, and let us know what you think.
These updates will start to appear on mastodon.social and other servers running nightly builds from today, and will be available to everyone in Mastodon 4.6, coming in a few weeks.
@Mastodon could use some colour instead of all white... not sure what's the point of paying for a color screen to see a black and white UI.

@gunchleoc @imanijoy @kayrah87
It's a little niggle and I like Mastodon otherwise, including the instance I'm on (I have a small monthly DD donation running to support it). I'd be very reluctant to start over somewhere else.

Coming soon in Mastodon 4.6 - a redesigned profile page. We've used community feedback and surveys to inform these updates. In our latest blog post, @imanijoy explains our design thinking and choices. Here are a few highlights 🧵
https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2026/03/a-redesign-for-profiles/
@Mastodon @imanijoy I'll use this event to ask for exportable notes. User notes are very important, I don't mind hiding the empty field per se, but coupled with the lack of export, it's turning the notes into a third-class field, when it should be promoted to first-class, as the only private/not shared free-form field available to us.
It could (should?) even be encrypted client side so server admins couldn't see it! Please consider.

re 2) The techy ones, yes. For not so techy ones I’ve seen a story or two in recent months of users believing that all Mastodon instances are run by the Mastodon company with the domains being some kind of gimmick – somewhat understandable when you’re used to corpo media platforms and particularily also to BlueSky, where that’s actually pretty acurate. (At least that’s were we suspected it might come from in the comments.)So they’ll probably know the full handle, but not necessarily be aware of what it means.
@draNgNon @Mastodon -
@katzentratschen @Mastodon It shows up if the other profile is following you in the context menu (if there's a option to remove follower, then they are following you).
To be fair, let's think on the pros and cons of keeping and removing. IMHO, I agree it ranks low in terms of establishing both trust and interest an account, because many spammers follow hundreds of accounts trying to get followed back (I often block them), but I don't think that's a good reason for removing this info. I also don't think there's a good reason for making it more prominent either.
@qgustavor
I’m on an instance that doesn’t have a bot-mass-follow problem. That really sounds like a mass instance problem (hey, .social!). Also for locked accounts “I got followed by hundreds of bot accounts without noticing” is inherently not a thing
and these are very popular around here...

Not that I think, Glitch will remove it either way, so personally I don’t care much.

@jeremyjackson @Gamrok @Mastodon thank you, and we're certainly taking this into consideration.

Good to hear! I have been noticing the lack of this feature more and more so here's hoping...!

@draNgNon @Mastodon@curiousicae exactly. if people knew their own instance they wouldn't need to have changed how the handles are in the profile display

@Mastodon It's disappointing that you've revamped the profile page in the web app when the profile functionality in the official Android app is still incomplete.
We should be able to see and edit profile notes in the Android app. -

@meganmariehart @Mastodon @imanijoy
Me too, I've had this error for almost 12 hours now.
I cannot see anyone's profile nor see my own.
